A cat has been infected in France by the H1N1 influenza virus, said Tuesday the Director General of Health Didier Houssin in a briefing.

The veterinarian who took care of the animal in a family suffering from the flu, found he had broncho-pneumonia. The contamination by the virus H1N1 has been confirmed by the analysis, said Professor Houssin. This case occurred in the Bouches-du-Rhone (southern), it was clear to the Directorate General of Health. "There have been several cases of this type abroad in pig and dogs in China recently, and then a cat in the United States," he said. "The best way to avoid this is that people who own pets are vaccinated do," said Director General of Health. France has exceeded the last week the threshold of 100 deaths of people infected with influenza virus H1N1. The National Institute of Health Watch reported Monday in 11 deaths since Friday, bringing to 118 the death toll since the epidemic began in France, outside departments and overseas territories.
