Kerala: 1 more dies of H1N1 fever, more cases reported

Thiruvananthapuram, Saturday, July 23, 2011: As many as sixteen new confirmed cases of H1N1 and one death due to the disease were reported on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Subisha (36 years) hailing from Vanchiyoor here.

She was admitted to the Medical college hospital here with acute respiratory problems. According to the recent reports, H1N1 infection has claimed five lives so far. The new confirmed cases reported were from Thiruvananthapuram- 5, Kottayam-3, Kannur-3, Kozhikode- 1, Kollam-1, Alappuzha- 1 and Wayanad- 1.

One H1N1 patient dies, four positive cases reported

Thiruvananthapuram,Jul 10 (PTI) One person,who was confirmed to have H1N1 inefection, died in this district last night while four positive cases were reported in Palakkad, according to Health Department sources here today. A total of 34 patients had been quarantined in hospitals while 174 patients were under home quaranitine, the Department said in a release. One of the patients was undergoing tretment in ICU while the throat swab of 27 suspected cases had been sent for examination to competent laboratories. A 35-yer-old man from Ponmudi area, who was admitted with respiratory problems, was confirmed to be H1N1 case and died in the hospital yesterday. Meanwhile,senior Health Department officials said necessary measures had been taken for early detection of suspected cases and their throat swabs would be send for tests.

Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 26 (PTI) A 73-year-old man died of swine flu in Kerala today taking the number of deaths due to the virus to six while four persons, who tested positive, are under treatment.Alexander Mathew of Kollam, who died in a private hospital, was admitted with acute respiratory distress syndrome, pulmonary odema and other complications and tested H1N1 positive, a health department release said.Two positive cases each were reported from Kollam and Thiruvananthapuram districts. One of the patient was admitted to the ICU.

Two more die of H1N1 in Kerala

Two more persons have died of H1N1 influenza in Kerala, taking the total number of deaths due to the virus to eight since the start of the monsoon season in the state.

Five persons, who tested positive, are under treatment in different parts of the state, a Health Department release said today.

The Directorate of Health Services was monitoring the situation closely and steps taken to ensure supply of medicines to hospitals across the state for treating H1N1 and other types of viral fever reported from different parts of the state, official sources said.

Two women, aged 40 and 63, both from Thiruvananthapuram district, died in the Medical college here after testing positive for H1N1 influenza.

A total of 20 patients are under hospital quarantine and 392 persons under home quarantine.

Throat swabs of 28 persons had been sent for lab tests, the release added.

Last week, a central team of experts had visited the state to assess the spread of various types of fever and submit a report to the Union Government.

The team members, however, said there was no need for panic as the situation was under control.

23 test postive, 2 dead, thousands under Home Quarantine
Thiruvananthapuram, Jul 30 : As many as 23 patients tested positive, three died and about 2,413 patients were put under Home Quarantine and 101 under Hospital Quarantine due to H1N1 for the last seven days in Kerala.





The three death cases were reported from various districts and three have been admitted in ICUs in various hospitals, according to official sources here today.

Throat swabs of 162 were sent for lab test.

Seven positive cases were reported from Trivandrum, two each from Kozhikode and Kannur, three each from Malappuram and Kottayam, one each from Kollam and Thrissur.

Ms Komalam (63), hailing from Parayathukonam near here, was admitted in Medical College Hospital here with the history of Conoray Artery Disease and Diabetes. She died on July 26 and was confirmed H1N1 positive.

Ms Bindhu (40) from Malayinkil near here was admitted in Medical College Hospital here with the history of Hepato Renal dysfunction.

She died on July 27. She was confirmed H1N1 positive also.

Mr Alexander Mathew (73) from S N Puram in Kollam was admitted in a private hospital here with the history of respiratory failure.

He died on July 26. He was confirmed H1N1 positive, the sources added.
