H1N1 has claimed the life of a prominent University of Calgary professor

64-year-old Margo Husby-Scheelar died in hospital Wednesday (Feb 13th) after a month in intensive care.

Her death is believed to be the first H1N1 related death in the city since 2009.

Since this flu season began in September, there have been 15 reported cases of H1N1 in the Calgary area.

Seventy-one people died in the 2009 H1N1 epidemic.

A Calgary family is warning people to take the flu seriously after their mother died this week from H1N1 flu virus.

Margo Husby-Scheelar was a popular professor in the University of Calgary?s department of communication and culture.

The 64-year-old was sick for a week before she was admitted to hospital and diagnosed with H1N1. After spending nearly a month in intensive care, she died on Wednesday, said her son Greg Scheelar.

Scheelar said he wants to share her story to make sure no one else suffers a similar loss...
