Laboratory tests have confirmed a second local death from the H1N1 flu - a 49-year-old McMinnville woman who died at her residence on Nov. 5.

Last month, a 44-year-old McMinnville man succumbed to the virus, which differs from the seasonal flu virus in that it hits children and young adults harder than it does older adults. He died in a Portland hospital, following transfer from the Willamette Valley Medical Center.

Both suffered from underlying health problems, which is typical of patients who die from the disease.
