H1N1 deaths: Minister's warning to health officials

STAFF WRITER 17:33 HRS IST

Bangalore, Aug 27 (PTI) Karnataka Health Minister B Sriramulu today warned that district health officials and surgeons will be held responsible for deaths owing to diseases such as H1N1 influenza, dengue and chikungunya.

Deputy Commissioners had been instructed to maintain vigil and take all measures to control the spread of these diseases. Hospital control rooms had been asked to ensure day-long availability of medical professionals to treat patients, he told reporters here.

Health authorities had taken all precautionary steps to prevent the spread of these diseases.

Sriramulu said Karnataka has registered 95 HIN1 deaths this year, which was lower than when compared to other states.

The minister said there was no dearth of medicines for HIN1, nor any scarcity with regard to availability of blood in blood banks. If required, the government will also organise blood donation camps, with assistance of NGOs, to meet any rising demand, he added.
