H1N1 affects Madison test schedule
Schools to test earlier in case swine flu strikes
Published : Tuesday, 29 Sep 2009, 9:23 AM CDT
MADISON (AP) -
Some students in Madison will take state standardized tests several weeks early this year because of swine flu.
Madison schools spokesman Joe Quick says the district is pushing principals to start administering the test earlier than usual because there might later be widespread absences from swine flu.
The state Department of Public Instruction is allowing schools to give the Wisconsin Knowledge and Concepts Exam as early as Oct. 9. The usual testing period is between Oct. 26 and Nov. 27.
The state tests are used as a key tool for rating schools and meeting requirements under No Child Left Behind.
