H1N1 (2009) pandemic influenza virus may have a tendency to increase its virulence, study says

A study published by PLoS Pathogens (see reference below) rises the possibility that the mild pandemic caused by the novel H1N1 (2009) strain of influenza virus might know a future setback when a variant possessing some mutations will emerge with an increased virulence.

The mutations behind this increased virulence have been isolated in a mouse model after infection with one of the representative strain of H1N1 (2009) pandemic influenza virus.

This paper should be analyzed in depth for potential public health impacts.
