'Mystery' fever leaves many sick in Surat

SURAT: Jayesh Shah, 30, a yarn trader, was perfectly normal when he left for work at 10 am from his house in Nanpura last Saturday. He finished his morning routine, had lunch and then went to Pandesara, Udhna and Sumul Dairy road on his motorcycle to meet clients.
When he returned home in the evening, he had a severe headache and his knees were shaking. His body temperature shot up and he was running 103 degree fever. His wife rushed him to their family doctor.
This is not an isolated case. A number of such incidents have been reported from different areas of the city in the past 15 days. However, the pathological tests of these normal looking people, who have fever, are negative for malaria, typhoid, dengue and hepatitis. Many patients among them though suffer from dysentery.
