Mystery fever claims three lives in 10 days

Amid reports of a mystery fever claiming three lives in the past 10 days, district authorities in Junagadh have pooled three doctors from nearby Public Health Centres (PHCs) to the one at Sukahwada in Malia Hatina taluka, where the deaths have occurred.

All three died before proper diagnoses could be made.

Five die of mysterious fever in Junagadh village

RAJKOT: As many as four teams have been rushed to Kukasvada village of Maliya Hatina taluka of Junagadh district by the administration to probe the five deaths that have resulted from a mysterious fever between November 9 and 14.

According to sources, those dead include three girls. "Since the people who died were not diagnosed and we do not have any laboratory reports, we are left with no option but to take serum samples of the patients who have been admitted in various hospitals. These serums are being sent to Rajkot Medical College for tests to ascertain the type of fever that has caused the deaths,'' an official with the health department in Junagadh said.

"If the reports confirm that these patients are down with dengue fever, we will assume that the people who died may have suffered from dengue," chief district health officer, Junagadh, Dr D K Dabhi said.

Ahmedabad: Health officials in the state are trying to figure out the ?fever? that has claimed five lives in the last five days in Kukaswada village of Chorwad taluka of Junagadh district. Of the five deaths, a 57-year-old man is reported to have died due to multiple organ failure. The rest have succumbed to fever within a day or two of falling ill.

The victims also include a 2.5 year old baby girl, a 15-year-old adolescent and 9-month-old baby. A 55-year-old woman also died due to the mysterious illness.

Health officials believe that the two children may have succumbed to Chandipura virus even as samples of the diseased have been collected for further investigation.
