Five more swine flu deaths reported from Gujarat

Five swine flu deaths have been reported in the last two days in the state, taking the total death toll to 285, health officials said here on Sunday. Nine fresh cases of H1N1 have been reported from across Gujarat, they added.

One Dipika Solanki (25) died of the virus at the Surat Civil Hospital today. Rita Chavda (30) succumbed to the flu in Rajkot and Chiman Vankar (30) died in the city, officials said. Two other deaths that occurred last month were reported today, they added. The total swine flu-related deaths reported from Gujarat include nine cases from Rajasthan and one from Madhya Pradesh. These patients were brought here for treatment.

Fresh swine flu cases were also reported from Ahmedabad, Vadodara, Jamnagar, Amreli, and Junagadh districts. So far, 1,444 people have tested positive for the H1N1 virus.

Swine flu death toll reaches 28 in Vadodara

VADODARA: A 49-year-old school teacher from Kayavarohan became the 28th victim of swine flu in the city on Tuesday. Bhika Rana was admitted to a multi-speciality hospital on Monday, and later referred to SSG Hospital.

Rana was brought to SSG on Monday afternoon and his samples tested positive on Tuesday. He died in the afternoon and was cremated at Khaswadi crematorium in the city.

He was school teacher at Giya Talawadi village in Kayavarohan and was admitted to Spandan Hospital. He was then referred to SSG as a suspected swine flu patient. His sample report that arrived on Tuesday evening confirmed him to be H1N1 positive.

VADODARA: Swine flu claimed 29th life in the city on Saturday. A 25-year-old resident admitted to SSG Hospital (SSG) succumbed to the virus in the wee hours of Saturday.

He was later cremated at Khaswadi crematorium. Dinesh Vasava of Waghodiya-Ring Road was admitted in SSG few days ago. His samples tested positive for H1N1 virus.

He died around 2.30 am and was cremated early in the morning in the presence of his family members.

Three more people have died of influenza A (H1N1) in Gujarat, taking the toll due to the swine flu pandemic in India so far to 1395, an official statement said here today.

One of the deaths occurred during the day today while the other two were reported in the last few days, it said.

Of the total swine flu deaths in the country so far, Maharashtra accounts for 378, while 299 lives have been lost in Gujarat, 194 in Rajasthan, 148 in Karnataka, 95 in Delhi, 52 in Andhra Pradesh, 40 in Punjab, 38 in Haryana, 37 in Kerala, 26 in Madhya Pradesh, 19 in Uttar Pradesh, 13 in Uttarakhand, 11 in Chhattisgarh, 8 each in Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 in Tamil Nadu, 6 in Puducherry, 5 in Goa, 4 in Jammu & Kashmir, 3 in Orissa, 2 in Assam and 1 each in Mizoram and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

The statement said 33 new cases of the flu were reported today, including 22 in Maharashtra, 9 in Karnataka and 1 each in Kerala and Haryana.

With these, the total number of laboratory-confirmed cases of the virus reported in the country so far has gone up to 29,837, the statement added.

Mumbai, March 12: Three more deaths from swine flu or influenza A (H1N1) were reported from the country yesterday, health officials stated. These new deaths have now added to the number of dead in the country, taking the total toll to 1,404, revealed the sources.

None of the three deaths registered, occurred during the day itself ? all were earlier deaths that were confirmed and reported by authorities in the respective states where they occurred. While two of the deaths occurred in Rajasthan, the third was from Maharashtra.

The state wise toll for individual states comprises 383 deaths from Maharashtra, 299 from Gujarat, 196 from Rajasthan, 148 from Karnatka, 95 from Delhi, 52 from Andhra Pradesh, 40 from Punjab, 38 from Haryana, 37 from Kerala, 28 from Madhya Pradesh, 19 from Uttar Pradesh, 13 from Uttarakhand, 11 from Chhattisgarh, 8 each from Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh, 7 from Tamil Nadu, 6 from Puducherry, 5 from Goa, 4 from Jammu and Kashmir, 3 from Orissa, 2 from Assam and one death each from Mizoram and Dadra and Nagar Haveli.

Health officials also said that 24 new cases of swine flu were reported from across the country. These included 20 infections from Maharashtra and an infection each from Delhi, Karnataka, Goa and Rajasthan. As of now the total number of confirmed cases of swine reported in the country has gone up to 29,904, sources said.

Ahmedabad, Mar 12 (PTI) Death toll due to swine flu has reached the 300 mark in Gujarat with one more person succumbing to the H1N1 virus today at Vadodara.

Chandrasinh Patel (50) died at a private hospital in Vadodara due to the disease, according to state health department officials.

So far, 1,497 people have tested positive with the infectious disease while two new cases have been reported from Vadodara and Ahmedabad, the officials said.

Out of 300 people died so far, 290 were from the state itself while nine persons were brought to the hospitals here from Rajasthan. A patient fom from Madhya Pradesh also died here.

Pregnant swine flu patient dies in Godhra

VADODARA: A pregnant woman suffering from swine flu died at a private clinic in Godhra. The woman was brought to the hospital in the wee hours of Thursday and died after a brief treatment.

While officials denied to disclose the identity of the woman, they said that she was from Santrampur and was suffering from flu-like symptoms for the last two days. When her condition worsened she was rushed to the New Life Hospital at Godhra where she was admitted.

The hospital authorities alerted the district health officer and samples were collected to confirm, if she was suffering from swine flu. The woman died within hours of being admitted to the hospital. Panchmahal district health officer Dr Prakash Waghela said that the reports that arrived around 4 pm on Thursday confirmed that she was a H1N1 case.

Waghela said that the civil hospital at Godhra had prepared an isolation ward that had a capacity of six patients. He added that sufficient stock of medicines was also kept ready in case more patients arrived at the hospital.

The staff involved in the treatment of the woman, who had died on Thursday, was also given Tamiflu tablets as a precautionary measures. "We have asked the hospital staff to take necessary precautions," Waghela said.

Fresh H1N1 case reported in Kutch, patient out of danger

The state Health Department has geared up to combat H1N1 Influenza (swine flu) in the state after a positive case was reported from Kutch district in Gujarat. Health department officials said one patient was admitted to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital from Kutch, who is now out of danger.

Meanwhile, all government hospitals have been alerted to take precautionary measures against the infection.

State Health Department officials said: ?The increase in humidity during monsoon might lead to a rise in infections. All awareness measures are taken by the Health Department and there is no need to panic. Only one or two swine flu cases have been reported in Gujarat, so far.?

State Health Minister Jay Narayan Vyas said: ?One case from Kutch district has been admitted to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. He is out of danger. Humid environment aids the spread of swine flu. This year, 23 cases of swine flu have been reported from Kerala and 10 from Maharashtra.

I'm not sure where the reporter got these numbers.

Woman dies due to swine flu in Gujarat

Banaskantha: A 23-year-old woman who was tested positive for Swine flu died today while undergoing treatment at the Ahmedabad civil hospital, health officials here said.




"The victim Bhawna Ghevariya who was confirmed with HIN1 infection on June 21, succumbed to the deadly virus today in the civil Hospital in Ahmedabad," Banaskantha chief district health officer (CDHO), PR Sahay told PTI.


"The woman who was pregnant had come to her parents' place in Haripura village of Vav taluka for delivery. On June 15 she gave birth to a child at a private hospital in Deesa. But her health began to deteriorate since then," Sahay said.


Looking at her Swine flu like symptoms, doctors of private hospital referred her to the Ahmedabad civil hospital, where she tested positive for H1N1 virus on June 21, he added.


Bhawana was resident of Mukhali village of Badmer district in Rajasthan.


As many as 300 persons have died due to Swine flu in the state till now, out of the over 1,400 people who were infected with the deadly H1N1 virus.

PALANPUR: The deadly H1N1 virus causing the swine flu was back to haunt the state on Friday when a 33-year-old woman died of the disease in Ahmedabad's civil hospital. Bhavna Ghevriya, 23, of Banaskantha district delivered a baby on June 15 and was diagnosed with the flu a week later on June 21.

A native of Vav taluka of Banaskantha district, after marriage, Bhavna lived in Mukhali village in Badmer taluka in Rajasthan.

Chief district health officer of Banaskantha PR Sahay confirmed the death, saying, "Bhavna was diagnosed HIN1 positive on June 21. As she was pregnant she had come to stay at her parents' house in Haripura area.

After she gave birth at a private hospital in Deesa, her health began to deteriorate. The attending doctor suspected HIN1 and referred her to Ahmedabad, where reports confirmed the disease."

H1N1 back in Surat


Surat: A Surat youth was detected with swine flu on Sunday. The youth has been admitted to a private hospital in the city and is currently undergoing treatment under the supervision of a team of doctors.
The swine flu case has come to light in Surat after a lull of more than five months.

Rohit (name changed) is a resident of Colaba in Mumbai and working at Valkeshwar. Sources said that youth came to Surat 10 days back and was living on rent at Falcon Avenue apartment on City Light road. Rohit was suffering from high fever, cough and cold for the past five days. During medical check-up on Sunday, he was tested positive for swine flu and was immediately admitted to Mahavir Hospital.

Rohit was been quarantined at an isolation ward of the hospital, where he is being treated by a team of doctors. Civic health officers and doctors of NCH (New Civil Hospital) rushed to the hospital and questioned Rohit. Doctors are trying to find out how he got the infection.

?A patient shows symptoms of H1N1 virus seven days after getting infected. Rohit is in Surat for the past 10 days and this means he got infected by someone who is living in Surat. We are trying to figure out that the source. If the source is not traced, many more can get infected,? a top civic health official said.

Mumbai man tests positive for swine flu

SURAT: The dreaded swine flu has raised its head in the city again. The H1N1 virus has been brought to the city by a 30-year old man who lives in Mumbai's Colaba area, district health department officials said. He was living in City Light area when he developed swine flu symptoms and underwent tests in Mahavir Hospital in the city. His tests are positive and it got confirmed late on Sunday.

Officer in-charge of H1N1 cell of district panchayat health office Dr Piyush Shah said, "He had swine flu symptoms since last seven days. During the diagnosis, he was found to be affected with swine flu virus and at present is undergoing treatment in the city. We have sent a cross notification to Mumbai authorities about the patient."

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) health department officials said they have not received any suspected cases of swine flu from any part of the city in the last few months. "With monsoon season beginning and a swine flu patient coming to the city from Mumbai, we don't want to take any chances. We are taking extreme precautions like in the past to deal with this menace," medical officer, SMC, Dr Hemant Desai said.

The city till now had 864 suspected H1N1 cases, including the present one, of which 154 were reported positive and 24 people died.

SURAT: Two days after the city reported a positive H1N1 case, one more suspected swine flu patient was admitted to a hospital in the city.

An 18-year-old woman from New City Light Road was admitted to Mahavir Hospital with the symptoms of the disease. The test reports of the patient are being awaited, Dr Piyush Shah, officer in-charge of the swine flu cell at district panchayat health department said.

Earlier on Tuesday evening, a 15-month-old infant from Palanpur patia area was admitted to Masoom hospital and a 53-year-old woman from Adajan Patia was admitted to Mahavir Hospital with suspected disease. However, both tested negative.

Till now, city has reported 867 suspected cases of the disease. Of these, 154 were reported positive. City has seen 24 deaths due to this dreaded virus.

Jamnagar man tests swine flu positive

JAMNAGAR/RAJKOT: A 45-year-old man from Jamnagar city has tested positive for HINI virus and is being treated at a private hospital in Rajkot, sources said on Tuesday.

According to sources, the man, a resident of Gokulnagar area of Jamangar, was admitted to a private hospital in Rajkot on July 11 after he showed symptoms of the disease. His throat swab and blood test reports which arrived on Monday night confirmed the infection.

Meanwhile, sources said that two suspected cases of the disease had also been admitted to the isolation ward of Rajkot's Civil Hospital. Reports of these patients are awaited.

SURAT: The monsoon's first case of H1N1 virus has been reported in the city on Thursday night. A 25-year-year-old woman from Ved Road area has tested positive for swine flu, which has taken the total number of people who had tested positive for the virus in the city to 155.

Dr Piyush Shah, designated officer for the swine flu cell in jilla panchayat, told TOI, "The woman was brought to New Civil Hospital a day ago as a H1N1 suspect patient and her reports are positive. This is the first case of the monsoon. A male had reported positive for the virus 15 days ago, but he was infected in Mumbai. This woman got infected in the city. We are taking all the steps to avoid the spread of the deadly virus during the monsoon."

So far, there have been 875 suspected cases and 24 deaths due to swine flu in the city. Meanwhile, no suspected cases were reported on Friday.

Pregnant woman tests positive for swine flu in city


SURAT: A 24-year-old pregnant woman tested positive for H1N1 virus in the city on Saturday night. She is a resident of Navagam area in the city and is nine months pregnant. She is being treated at New Civil Hospital and is on a ventilator because of severe breathing problem.

Dr Pixyish Shah, nodal officer, for jilla panchayat swine flu cell, said, "She was reported as a suspected swine flu patient on Saturday morning. Her test results have come as positive and now she has been put on a ventilator." New Civil Hospital sources said, "She had developed breathing problem on Saturday and had to be shifted to isolation ward."

At present, two patients are receiving treatment in NCH for swine flu and this has taken the number of infected patients to 156 in the city. The city has witnessed 876 suspected cases of swine flu, which also claimed 25 lives.

Bharuch youth dies of swine flu in city

VADODARA: Swine flu claimed a life in the city on Monday with a 24-year-old male from Bharuch succumbing to the virus. Brijesh Patel was admitted to SSG Hospital late on Saturday as a suspected H1N1 patient. His samples tested positive and he died during the course of treatment on Monday afternoon.

Patel was a resident of Amod taluka in Bharuch district. He was referred by the local doctor to a private hospital in the city. But Patel was later brought to SSG for treatment. His samples were sent for testing as he showed symptoms of the disease. Patel's report arrived on Monday, but he died by afternoon.

Patel was a pharmacist, who was undergoing treatment for cold, cough and fever in Bharuch. When his conditions did not improve, he was referred to a city-based hospital. Earlier, a 33-year-old man, also from Bharuch, who worked as a watchman with a private company there, was brought to the city as suspected H1N1 patient. 4-year-old girl dies of swine flu in Pandesara


SURAT: A four-year-old girl, who was under treatment for swine flu, died here on Wednesday afternoon. Muskan Gopal Singh was admitted to Surat Municipal Institute of Medical and Education Research (SMIMER) at 10 pm on Tuesday in a severe condition.

Furthermore, recent history of the victim shows no visit outside the city. She might have got infected within the city itself, doctors attending to her said.

Muskan, a resident of Bhakti Nagar in Pandesara, was in a very serious condition when admitted to the hospital. Although the swine flu infection was confirmed only on Wednesday, she was given medication for the virus soon after her admission. But, the treatment could not help. Samples of four other suspected swine flu patients were tested, but were found negative.

Three positive cases of swine flu were reported from Ved Road area of the city on Tuesday. Two of the three patients were confirmed positive by doctors on Tuesday, taking the total number of positive cases in the city to 159. Dr Piyush Shah, nodal officer, H1N1 cell, Jilla Panchayat, said, "A five-year-old son of a 28-year-old man, who had tested positive for the virus on Monday, too, is affected by swine flu. Both are receiving treatment in New Civil Hospital of the city and are residents of Kuber Park Society of Ved Road area."

Besides, a 35-year-old male, who lives in Vishram Nagar on Ved Road, reported positive for the virus on Tuesday. He is receiving treatment in Harekrishna Hospital in the area. In the last few days, five new patients in the city have tested positive for the dreaded virus. One of the patients happened to be a pregnant woman, who had to be put on ventilator.

SURAT: Two more positive cases of swine flu have been reported from Katargam and Udhna areas of the city, which witnessed death of a four-year-old girl due to H1N1 virus on Wednesday.

The total number of swine flu positive cases in the city have gone up to 162 till Thursday.

Dr Piyush Shah, nodal officer of swine flu cell in jilla panchayat, said, "Five suspected swine flu patients were reported on Thursday. Of these five, two were admitted to Apple Hospital and three in New Civil Hospital in the city. A 30-year-old male from Katargam and a 24-year-old female from Amrutnagar, Udhna tested positive for H1N1 virus."

VADODARA: A resident from Bharuch admitted in SSG Hospital tested positive for swine flu. The patient was referred to government hospital and was brought on Wednesday afternoon. His sample report, which arrived on Thursday, confirmed positive for the virus.

The patient is from Amod taluka, the same place where Brijesh Patel, who died of swine flu on July 19, belonged.
Swine flu has claimed 26 lives in the city so far.
