Ahmedabad, Sept 8 (PTI) Swine flu claimed three more lives in Gujarat, taking the statewide toll to 14, even as two more persons were tested positive for the viral infection today.

According to officials of the state health department, one Rajubhai Raval died at the civil hospital here yesterday.

Earlier he was admitted to private hospitals in Anand and Ahmedabad.

At Rajkot, 52-year-old Ashok Chaudhary died of swine at a government hospital. He was admitted to the hospital on September 5 after he showed symptoms of swine flu.

23-year-old Mayaben Gopal Agrawal died of H1N1 infection at civil hospital in Surat yesterday.

Meanwhile, two persons in Surat tested positive for swine flu today. With this, 134 persons have been tested positive for H1N1 virus in the state.

AHMEDABAD/VADODARA/SURAT/Rajkot: Tuesday witnessed three more deaths in the state due to swine flu. Maya Gopal Agarwal, 23, died at New Civil
Hospital (NCH) in Surat. Umreth resident Rajesh Manhar Raval, 40, died in the isolation ward of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital whereas Ashok Sejpal breathed his last in the isolation ward of Rajkot Civil Hospital.

On Tuesday, the number of positive cases reached 134 while the number of confirmed H1N1 deaths 14.

Agarwal, a resident of Palanpur Patia area in the city, was admitted to NCH with respiratory problems. She died on Sunday and her swine flu report came after her death on Monday.

Raval was admitted on Monday and had tested positive for Influenza A.

Sejpal had difficulty in breathing and was taking medicine for TB and was diagnosed with dengue as well. "There was blood in his cough so we suspected swine flu. He was admitted in the isolation ward. We collected his samples and sent it to Ahmedabad for swine flue report,'' hospital officials said. Sejpal is survived by his teacher wife Bharti and son Jaydeep.

In Surat, health officials said that Agarwal had started showing swine flu symptoms from Wednesday and was initially treated at a private hospital. He was shifted to NCH on Saturday as her condition deteriorated and she was put on ventilator.

"She was given medication for swine flu and her blood samples were sent for swine flu test," said Hemant Desai, health officer at Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC).

According to Desai, Agarwal had no history of visiting pandemic area in India or abroad. "No one from abroad visited her since the outbreak. She was handicapped since many years as she was operated upon for backbone tuberculosis," added Desai.

Raval's doctor said that he had a history of breathlessness. "He also had dry cough as he was suffering from allergic bronchitis," epidemic medical officer Dr Harshad Sharma, who personally visited Raval's family staying in Umreth city's Ravaliya Vaas area, informed TOI.

"The patient was a painting labourer and had no contact with any NRI or foreigner. At the same time, since last week, the patient was resting at his home."

Health officials added that Raval, who was staying in a joint family, had not gone on any assignment since a week. "We have checked health of 12 of his immediate family members and none of them has any symptoms of being infected with H1N1. However, as part of precautionary measure, we have provided the family members medical guidance," added Sharma.

AHMEDABAD: Seema Rambahadur Gupta, 24, died due to swine flu infection on Wednesday afternoon at New Civil Hospital (NCH), Surat. With Gupta's
death, the number of fatalities has climbed to 15. Gupta, wife of a labourer, was admitted to NCH on Saturday after she complained of sore throat and breathlessness. She was residing near Kim Crossroads in Surat and was taken to a private hospital for preliminary checkup from where she was referred to NCH, informed district health officials.

"Medical report showing her swine flu positive status was declared late on Tuesday evening. She was on medication since her admission in the isolation ward at NCH. Gupta had no history of visiting any areas where the pandemic had been reported from earlier," said Surat district health officer Vijay Kumar Gupta.

In Ahmedabad, two cases tested positive, including a doctor working with Civil Hospital. Meanwhile, the sudden spate of deaths, especially from the lower-income groups has the government machinery concerned that H1N1 virus has now become a localized infection. "It has got embedded in the community and there are strong chances that the infection will surge, making it tough to tackle the virus," said senior officials.

They added that a decision has been taken in a meeting to review the H1N1 deaths to intensify community awareness efforts for preventing transmission as much as possible. "Each garba organizer will be directed to have a stall at the venue with a team of doctors to screen patients and spread awareness. They will be asked to send suspected cases to public hospital OPDs," said a senior official. The screening can be voluntary or visual where a person showing symptoms may be asked to get a checkup done, officials said.

AHMEDABAD/ RAJKOT/VADODARA: The deadly H1N1 continued its death scare as one more suspected swine flu patient, 22-year-old Kanji Maganbhai died in
Rajkot Civil Hospital on Wednesday evening. A 34-year-old man, who tested H1N1 positive, was reported critical at SSG Hospital in Vadodara. On Thursday, total positive cases reached 143.

Kanji, a migrant agricultural labourer was admitted to Civil Hospital and treated in the isolation ward, but he succumbed soon. Doctors suspected H1N1 virus and had taken his sample and sent it for laboratory test. But he died before his reports came.

Kanji belonged to Godhra in Panchmahal district and had come to Kothapipaliya village in Rajkot district. His last rites were performed in Rajkot only. Earlier, on Tuesday, a primary school principal in Amreli district had died of H1N1.

Meanwhile, Morbi-based industrialist DC Patel, an H1N1 positive patient was discharged from the Wockhardt Hospital here after battling with the virus for over 23 days.

He was admitted in a critical condition and hospital authorities said that he was put on ventilator for 15 days. He also had neuron complications. Wockhardt is approved by the state health authorities to treat H1N1 patients in Saurashtra and Kutch. "Patel's discharge holds hope that complicated cases of swine flu can be cured," Deepak Venugopalan, state head of the hospital, said.

In Vadodara, a 34-year-old patient, who was admitted to SSG with severe breathlessness, has tested positive for H1N1. His condition is critical, attending doctors said.

In Ahmedabad, two more people were tested positive. One is a resident of Kaligam while another is a 53-year-old doctor in Bopal who had come in contact with a positive doctor in Civil Hospital. "So far, over eight-nine doctors and medical staff of Civil Hospital have tested positive for swine flu," said health officials.

Junagadh A Day after the principal of Ingorala Government Primary School in Amreli died of swine flu, health officials asked 40 students of the school to stay home for a week as they complained of cough and fever on Wednesday.

District primary education officials said that after the death of principal Ashok Sejpal on Tuesday, a team of doctors visited the school in Babara taluka. During their check up drive, which involved all 309 students and the teaching staff, they found 40 students suffering from cough and fever.

?Following this, the officials advised the school administration to sanction seven-day leave to those students. This has been done as a precautionary measure,? said Amreli primary education officer Prakash Trivedi.

One of the health officials said, ?I have personally met the students and nothing serious has been noticed? they have
been asked to stay at home just as a preventive move.?

?The principal was not taking classes, so it is believed he had not come into contact with the students. Health officials will, however, submit a report if anything serious surfaces,? added the official.

According to sources, Sejpal had last visited the school on Saturday? the day he was admitted to a local hospital before being shifted to Rajkot.

Meanwhile, the officials held a meeting with the students, parents and villagers on Wednesday, wherein they were briefed about swine flu symptoms and how to deal with it.

Surat One more person in Surat died of swine flu on Wednesday. Seema Bahadur Gupta (28), a resident of Sanidhya township in Surat district, had been suffering from cold and cough for the last few days. She died at the New Civil Hospital of Surat.

Her swab samples, which were sent to the B J Medical College, Ahmedabad for testing, confirmed her as H1N1 positive on Wednesday evening.

Seema was initially taken to a private hospital in Kim by her relatives, and later, as suggested by Primary Healthcare Centre officials, she was shifted to the NCH on Tuesday.

The victim?s family members, including her husband Rambahadur Gupta and two children, have been quarantined, said sources.

The family has reportedly migrated from Uttar Pradesh.

District Health Officer Dr V K Gupta said, ?We tried our best to save her but she came when her condition was acute.?

Hospital sources said blood samples of one more suspected patient has been sent to the B J Medical College, Ahmedabad. According to NCH officials, the hospital has recorded 165 suspected swine flu cases in the last few weeks, of which 24 had turned out to be positive.

A doctors? team from the B J Medical College had recently visited the microbiology department of the NCH.

RAJKOT: The 22-year-old youth, who was suspected to have died of swine flu on Thursday morning, has tested negative for the virus. Doctors said he
had contracted pneumonia. Kanji Magan died in Rajkot Civil Hospital on Wednesday evening shortly after he was brought there in the morning.

Kanji, a migrant agricultural labourer, belonged to Godhra in Panchmahal district and had come to Kothapipaliya village here. Till now, two persons have died of swine flu in the city.

Vadodara A 34-year-old man from Karjan town died of swine flu on Saturday evening taking the death toll to 17 in the state. Paresh Patel was admitted in the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) of Vadodara on September 9 with Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS).

Patel was kept on ventilator since his admission in the isolation ward of the hospital.

Health officials said his condition had been critical throughout. Dr Atul Saxena, Superintendent, SSG Hospital, said, ?He was suffering from ARDS along with pneumonia and H1N1 virus. He was also diabetic.?

The case was confirmed for swine flu on September 10, said hospital sources.

Patel who worked in Modern Petrofils is survived by his parents, his wife and a child. This is the fourth swine flu death in Vadodara since the first one was reported on August 11.

Ahmedabad, Sep 13 (PTI) Twelve persons, including two children, were today tested positive for swine flu in Gujarat, state health officials said.

With this, 156 people have so far been tested positive for the H1N1 virus in the state, of which 17 died of the disease, they said.

According to the officials, nine swine flu victims, including a one-and-half year old girl, have been admitted to the New Civil Hospital in Surat.

A 10-year-old girl infected with A (H1N1) virus has been admitted to the Civil hospital in Valsad district, officials said, adding two others were under treatment in Ahmedabad.

Besides, 24 suspected flu cases are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in different cities, they said.

Yesterday, two persons -- 34-year-old Paresh Patel in Vadodara and 35-year-old Kailashben Desai at the Surat Civil Hospital -- succumbed to swine flu.

Surat , Sep 14 Swine flu claimed one more life in the city, taking the number of deaths due to the pandemic in Gujarat to 18, while no new cases of H1N1 infection were reported in the state today, officials said.

Vinod Upadhyay (40), a resident of Jalaramnagar here, died in isolation ward of Mahavir Hospital. He was admitted on September 10 with cough, soar throat and high fever, they said.

Though Upadhyay was on tamiflu tablets since his admission, he died today due to multiple organ failure, they said.

Surat/Ahmedabad, Sept 15 (PTI) A 30-year-old man died of swine flu in Surat today, while three more persons, including two women, tested positive for the H1N1 virus in Gujarat, health officials said.

Ratilal Mungra, a resident of Katargam area in the diamond city, died at the Civil Hospital, taking the swine flu death toll in the state to 19, they said.

Mungra was admitted with swine flu-like symptoms on September 11 and tested positive for H1N1 virus a couple of days later, the officials said, adding his condition deteriorated last evening.

Three more persons -- two women aged 42 and 50 years and a 16-year-old boy -- tested positive for the deadly virus in the state today, they said.

So far, 162 people have tested positive for swine flu in the state.

Yesterday, one Vinod Upadhyay (40) had died of the H1N1 infection in Surat's Mahavir Hospital.

One-and-a-half-year old Tanisha Solanki and Ratilal Mungra (30) died in Surat&aposs Civil Hospital.

" Tanisha was admitted to the Civil Hospital on September 13 after testing positive for H1N1 virus. She died at around 2000 hours due to bronco pneumonia along with swine flu,"health officials said here.

AHMEDABAD/SURAT: Swine flu claimed the lives of three more people on Sunday. In two days, six people have succumbed to the deadly flu ? the highest
frequency of deaths Gujarat has witnessed since April. While two died in Surat, one succumbed in Ahmedabad.

Rudra Baldania, a one-and-ahalf-year-old girl from Surat was first admitted in SMIMER on September 11 and declared H1N1 positive the next day. With little improvement in her health, Rudra was shifted to Mahavir Hospital on Wednesday, where she died. Jagruti Ghanshyam Jasani, 25, a pregnant woman and resident of Varachha, died late on Saturday at New Civil Hospital. Jagruti was admitted on Wednesday and declared H1N1 positive the next day. ?Jagruti was pregnant and in such condition the infection becomes more potent,? said Rajeev Deb Burman, casualty medical officer.

In the third case, a 28-year-old man from Anjol village in Gandhinagar, Shankar Patel, died on Sunday morning. Patel was brought on September 11 to Apollo hospital and later shifted to New Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. A new swine flu case was reported from New Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. The sudden spate of deaths has raised concerns among health authorities, especially with the Navratri festival in full swing.

Ahmedabad Sep 25 (PTI) A 25-year-old woman has succumbed to swine flu in Surat taking the death toll in Gujarat to 28, health officials said today.

Kavita Girase, who was admitted in the civil hospital on September 11 and tested positive for swine flu the next day, died last night, they said.

"The lady was pregnant and delivered her baby on September 13, after she was admitted and found positive of the viral infection," Health secretary Ravi Saxena said, adding that her baby is alive.

So far 28 people have succumbed to the virus in the state and 187 positive cases have been reported.

Suspected swine flu death in Jamnagar

RAJKOT: There has been a suspected swine flu death in Jamnagar. Bhavesh Kanjaria, 30, a tailor in Jamnagar, died on Thursday night at GG Hospital in
the city.
According to officials, he was admitted to hospital on Wednesday after he complained of cough and fever. It was found that he was suffering from pneumonia in both lungs.

But, after medical officials found H1N1 symptoms, he was shifted to an isolation ward in the hospital. "We sent the patient's samples for testing, but before the report arrived he died. The report is still awaited,'' said Dr KP Patel, chief district health officer, Jamnagar.

Two swine flu positive cases have been reported in the district so far. Both patients recovered, said Patel.

"After the death of the youth, we conducted a survey of the victim's contacts and have given primary treatment to more than 35 people,'' Patel added.

Ahmedabad, Sep 26 (PTI) Two persons died of swine flu in Gujarat in last two days, taking the toll due to the deadly virus in the state to 30, a senior health official said today.

Muljibhai Prajapati, 48, who had tested positive for H1N1 virus, died at a private hospital in Surat today, Ravi Saxena, Principal Secretary (health), said.

Another person, a 37-year-old Meenaben Pokia, who was undergoing treatment at the New Civil Hospital here, died of the infection yesterday, he said.

So far, 190 positive cases of swine flu have been reported from the state.

New Delhi, Sept 28 (PTI) Four persons, including a 12-year-old girl from Ambala and a 14-year-old boy in Surat, died of swine flu today even as 177 fresh cases of the viral infection were being detected across the country.

Punjab registered its first swine flu death when a 12-year-old schoolgirl from Ambala fell victim to the disease.

The girl had been brought to Chandigarh from Ambala on September 25 and admitted to a hospital here.

The swab samples of the victim's younger sister, who studies in in the same school, had also been collected for tests.

A 14-year-old boy at a civic-body-run hospital in Gujarat's Surat also died taking the toll due to swine flu to 32 in the state.
In Maharashtra's Nasik, a 29-year-old woman died of swine flu at the civil hospital there, taking the toll to 15 in the district.

IIM-A student dies of suspected swine flu

Ahmedabad, Sept 29 (PTI) A student of the Indian Institute of Management- Ahmedabad (IIM-A), who was suffering from flu-like symptoms for the past two days, died here today, health officials said.

First year Post Graduate student Nikhil Kamat died this morning, officials at IIM-A said.

He was first admitted to a private hospital SAL but when his condition began to deteriorate he was shifted to another private hospital Sterling where he died today, they said.

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has sent his swab to be examined for Swine flu at the BJ Medical College, health authorities at AMC said.

Ahmedabad , Sep 29 Swine flu death toll in Gujarat rose to 33, as an 18-year-old youth succumbed to the infection in Surat city, health officials said today.

" Chagan Parmar died at Surat Municipal Institute of Medical Education and Research (SMIMER) late last night,"state health officials said.

" With this, the death toll due to swine flu has reached 33. Number of swine flu positive cases remained at 196 as of today,"they said.

Surat has been severely affected by swine flu with over 16 deaths, and more than 75 positive cases being reported from the diamond city.

According to health officials, Surat has been hit hard because of its proximity to Maharashtra, besides having a huge migrant population being an industry and business centre.
