Four die of swine flu in Saurashtra

RAJKOT: Swine flu death continue unabated in Saurashtra as four more persons have succumbed to the disease. Thirty one people have fallen prey to the H1N1 virus in the region since the outbreak of the disease in January this year. Twenty five of these have died in Rajkot civil hospital.

Three of the dead belonged to Rajkot district while one was from Bhavnagar. The victims from Rajkot include Hasan Momin (85) of Vaghasiya village in Wankaner taluka, Shardaben Radadia (45) of Juni Sankali village in Jetpur taluka and Muktaben Ramani (38) of Kothariya Chokdi area.

Meanwhile, Baliben of Palitana died at civil hospital in Bhavnagar. At present 25 patients are being treated at the civil hospital in Rajkot, one in Junagadh and 12 in Amreli.

Swine Flu claims three lives in Gujarat

Two more die of swine flu

RAJKOT: Two persons, one each in Rajkot and Jamnagar, succumbed to swine flu on Thursday. Puriben Chavda, a resident of Khambhalia village in Maliya-Hatina taluka of Junagadh district, died at Rajkot Civil Hospital. Sources said she was pregnant and was admitted on March 3.

In Jamnagar, 56-year-old Haribhai Chaiya, a resident of Aliyabada village in the district died in GG Hospital.

Sources said there are 27 patients admitted to the isolation ward at civil hospital out of which 19 are swine flu positive. Till now 32 people have died of the disease in Saurashtra.

Swine flu: Death toll crosses 100 in Gujarat

With five more persons succumbing to H1N1 virus in various parts of Gujarat today, the death toll due to swine flue death has risen to 103 even as as many as 133 persons are undergoing treatment at various hospitals.

"While one person each from Amreli, Bhavnagar and Junagadh districts died today, two deaths have been reported from Jamnagar district", said Gujarat Nodal Officer for swine flu and Deputy Director (epidemics) Dinkar Raval.

He said out of the total of 541 H1N1 positive cases being registered, 305 persons have recovered while 133 are undergoing treatment in various government and private hospitals across the state.

60% of victims of H1N1 virus had other health conditions


AHMEDABAD: A cursory glance at data on patients who succumbed to the H1N1 virus will reveal that more than 60% of the victims were suffering from some sort of ailment. The recent categorization of victims and suspected cases has prompted the state health department to intensify their awareness drive against the rapid spread of the disease.

The data revealed that 22% had diabetes, 13% of victims had heart ailments, 12% were suffering from hypertension while 14% were pregnant women. The data revealed that the remaining 30% were healthy individuals. "The data clearly suggests the vulnerable group to us. We have been spreading the word through our district health centres on precautions people have to take," says a senior state health official.

Three more swine flu cases in Vadodara


VADODARA: Three more cases of swine flu were reported in the city since Tuesday night. With the fresh cases, the total number of persons who tested positive for the H1N1 virus went up to 34.

Officials in Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) said that on Friday night the reports of a 30-year-old woman residing in Sama area of the city revealed that she was suffering from swine flu. On Wednesday, two other patients - a 50-year-old man and a five-year-old boy - tested positive for the flu.

The man has been admitted to SSG Hospital in the city, while the boy has been admitted to Sangam Hospital. Meanwhile, a 60-year-old woman, who died at Sangam Hospital on Wednesday morning, was suspected to be a swine flu patient. But her test reports ruled out a H1N1 infection.

Swine flu claims 118 lives in state so far

With the death of seven persons in various districts in the state today, swine flu has claimed 118 lives in Gujarat since the onset of winter, a senior health official said.

"633 persons in the state have been infected by the deadly H1N1 virus, of whom 371 have been cured, while 88 persons are undergoing treatment in government hospitals and 56 in private health institutions," Dinkar Raval, deputy director (epidemics) and state nodal officer for swine flu, said.

Two persons succumbed to the virus today in Rajkot and Bhavnagar district each, while one person died in Banaskantha, Bhuj and Jamnagar district each, Raval said.

JAMNAGAR: Two more swine flu deaths have been reported from Jamnagar. The deceased have been identified as 21-year-old Priyanka Vachhani of Nani Bhalsan village in Jamnagar and Lathiben of Miyani village in Porbandar district.

Sources said that both of them had tested positive for the disease and were being treated at civil hospital. While Vachhani was admitted to the hospital five days back, Lathiben was hospitalized two days ago.

On Sunday, the state health department recorded three more deaths because of swine flu, taking the death toll to 121 since January 1. As per records there was a death reported from Amreli, Porbandar and Bhuj in Saurashtra and Kutch. In all, the state has recorded 652 swine flu cases of which 144 are presently under treatment in government and private hospitals. According to state health department figures, there are 83 patients admitted in government hospitals, while there are 61 in private hospitals. About 387 patients were cured of the disease.

In the 673 cases of infection in the same period, 406 patients have recovered while 143 are currently undergoing treatment in 84 government hospitals and 60 private hospitals across the state, according to health authorities.

Monday's deaths include a death each in Kheda, Vadodara and Jamnagar. Three others had also died from the virus on Sunday.

Surat woman tests positive for swine flu

SURAT: A 41-year-old woman tested positive for swine flu on Sunday at a private hospital here.

The woman, a resident of Pandesara area, was admitted to hospital on Friday after she complained of breathing problems, ran a fever and coughed continuously.

Her blood samples were sent for examination and the tests confirmed that she was infected with swine flu virus. The health authorities are testing 54 people, who had come in contact with the patient.
