Seven cholera cases reported in Vadodara village

Posted: Wed May 12 2010, 03:09 hrs

After seven cholera cases were detected in Choranda village of Karjan taluka, the Vadodara district health department has declared the village cholera-hit. A 26-year-old girl is reported to have died of the disease.

A Health department team has detected 46 cases of gastroenteritis in the village in the past one week. Sources said a leak in the water pipeline in the village a week ago contaminated the drinking water supply, leading to an outbreak of diarrhoea and vomiting cases.

?Eight medical teams are constantly monitoring the place. Only a part of the village has been affected by the disease. We have taken all measures to prevent the spread of the disease,? said B R Solanki, Chief District Health Officer, Vadodara.

Four patients have been admitted in a Karjan hospital and three others are under observation at a nearby Community Healthcare Centre (CHC). Though water is being supplied through tankers, the damaged water connection is yet to be fixed.

Cholera cases reported in city
TNN, May 31, 2010, 10.49pm IST

VADODARA: A day after three cholera cases were reported from the city, medical officers from Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) have sprung into action. A mobile team of medical and paramedical staff was sent to the areas from where the patients had been reported. The team carried out a survey-cum-awareness programme on Monday.

The three patients were from Navapura, Navidharti and near Jamnabai Hospital in the old city area. Residents in these areas were handed over pamphlets advising people to boil water before drinking.

"We sent a mobile team including doctors, paramedics and other staffers. They have started the awareness drive. The team also examined residents and suspected patients were given medicines and oral rehydration solution packets," said in charge VMC health officer Dr Dilip Asari.
