A boy and a girl died at Bara village of Devgadh Baria taluka in Dahod district while one girl shifted from the village to Godhra died late on Saturday. Vadodara. Chandipura suspected victims of the virus in Vadodara district on Wednesday, killing another child. In the past two days, three children have died at SSG Hospital. Three more cases of suspected Chandipura virus surface from Panchmahal

VADODARA: Three more patients of suspected Chandipura virus from Ghoghamba taluka of Panchmahal district have been admitted to Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) in the city. While one patient was brought on Friday evening, two others were admitted on Saturday.

Two patients are in a critical condition while the third one has been admitted on precautionary grounds. Parul Rathwa, 3, was brought to SSGH on Friday evening with encephalitis. She was given the supportive treatment and has been responding to it. Her sister Hansa Rathwa, 5, has been admitted for precautionary measures since she also had high fever when the family arrived at SSGH to admit Parul.

Seven-year-old Sanjay Rathwa was admitted at SSGH on Saturday afternoon with similar symptoms of encephalitis, including reduced consciousness and high fever...

'Chandipura virus' claims one more life

VADODARA: Yet another patient suspected to be suffering from Chandipura virus died at Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) on Monday night. Nirmala Rathwa (16) from Bara village of Devgadh Baria in Dahod district was admitted to SSGH on July 20.

Nirmala died on Monday night due to renal failure and internal bleeding. She was suffering from a severe condition of viral encephalitis that triggered convulsions. Nirmala was in the ICU from the time when she was admitted.

The results for Nirmala's blood test are still awaited from National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune. While blood samples of three other children from the same village, who died of suspected Chandipura virus, on July 20 tested negative for the virus.

According to the reports sent by NIV on Monday for seven of the 16 samples sent to it, three had tested positive for Chandipura virus and four samples tested negative.

VADODARA: Two more children died of suspected Chandipura viral infection in Panchmahal district on Tuesday even as another girl was admitted to SSG Hospital here in a serious condition. Till now, blood samples of three patients have already confirmed that they were suffering from the deadly virus while the results of three others are awaited.

The suspected outbreak in central Gujarat has claimed 10 lives so far.

VADODARA: Yet another patient suffering from suspected Chandipura virus died in Vadodara due to viral infection on Monday. The victim, Santosh Ajmera (4), died in Nandesari at his residence. Meanwhile, Payal Dama (7) from Dahod district was admitted to SSG hospital because of viral encephalitis on Monday. The death toll due to suspected cases of Chandipura virus reached twelve on Monday.

VADODARA: Suspected Chandipura virus has claimed one more life at Sir Sayajirao General Hospital (SSGH) here, taking the death toll in central Gujarat from this illness to 16. Payal Damor (7) from Dahod district died at the hospital on Tuesday morning.

Damor was admitted to SSGH with critical viral encephalitis on Monday. She died due to central nervous system failure.

VADODARA: Suspected Chandipura virus claimed one more life in Godhra town on Wednesday. Two-year-old Bharat Nayak was being shifted to SSG hospital for treatment of critical viral encephalitis when he died enroute.

The death toll due to viral encephalitis in central Gujarat has reached 19, of which five were tested positive for Chandipura virus.

VADODARA: Two patients suspected of suffering from Chandipura virus died at the Sir Sayajirao General Hospital in the last two days. Haresh Parghi (3) from Fatehpura taluka died on Friday night while Mugafira Tapla (3) from Godhra taluka in Panchmahal district breathed his last on Saturday due to viral encephalitis.

Of the total 30 blood samples sent to National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune, authorities have so far received results of 14 samples only. Of these, six tested positive for Chandipura virus and eight samples were negative. Samples of Pargi, Tapla, Vasava and Nayak will be sent to the NIV on Monday.

Cases of viral encephalitis reported from various areas of
District Anand, Dahod, Kheda, Panchmahal and Vadodara.
State RRT investigated the outbreak. A total of 25 cases and
16 deaths were reported. Cases presented with high grade
fever, diarrhea, vomiting and convulsions. All deaths were
reported in children under 10 years of age. A total of 13
human serum samples dahod (7), kheda (1), panchmahal (1)
and vadodara (2) and 5 CSF samples were tested for
Chandipura Virus by RT PCR and IgM ELISA at NIV Pune.
Out of these samples 3 samples (2 from Panchmahal and 1
from Vadodara) and 1 CSF sample from Vadodara tested
positive for Chandipura virus. All human and animal
samples tested negative for Japanese Encephalitis by IgM
ELISA. Actions taken by the State Active fever surveillance
started in the areas. Referral transport system implemented at
PHC and district level. Vector surveillance activated in the
affected districts, especially for sand fly. Insecticidal dusting
(Malathion 5%) have been carried out on loose soil, cracks /
crevices in and around houses as well as cattle sheds.
Invovlement of animal husbandry department for collection
of animals samples. Group discussions were organized to
strengthen community awareness regarding sanitation and
personal protection measures especially in pediatric age
group.
