WHO: EBOLA RESPONSE ROADMAP UPDATE
22 September 2014

Following the roadmap structure country reports fall into two categories: those with widespread and intense transmission (Guinea, Liberia, and Sierra Leone); and those with an initial case or cases, or with localized transmission (Nigeria, Senegal). An overview of the situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, where a separate, unrelated outbreak of Ebola virus disease (EVD) is occurring, is also provided (see Annex 1).

1. COUNTRIES WITH WIDESPREAD AND INTENSE TRANSMISSION

5843 (probable, confirmed and suspected; see Annex 2) cases and 2803 deaths have been reported in the current outbreak of EVD as at 20 September 2014 by the Ministry of Health of Guinea, as at 17 September 2014 by the Ministry of Health of Liberia, and as at 19 September 2014 by the Ministry of Health of Sierra Leone (table 1).

WHO: Ebola Response Roadmap Situation Report
24 September 2014
OVERVIEW
The total number of probable, confirmed and suspected cases (see Annex 1) in the current outbreak
of Ebola virus disease (EVD) in West Africa was 6263, with 2917 deaths, as at the end of 21
September 2014. Countries affected are Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone. Figure 1
shows the total number of confirmed and probable cases by country that have been reported in each
epidemiological week between the start of 30 December 2013 (start of epidemiological week 1) and
the end of 21 September 2014 (epidemiological week 38: 15 to 21 September), and indicates a fall in
the number of reported new cases compared with the previous two weeks. However, for reasons
given below, this is unlikely to be an accurate reflection of the reality. The epidemic of EVD in West
Africa is still increasing.

GUINEA
The situation in Guinea remains stable, with between 82 and 102 new confirmed and probable cases
reported in each of the past five weeks (figure 2). Unlike the capitals of Liberia and Sierra Leone,
transmission in the Guinean capital, Conakry, remains stable and moderate, with 3?15 newly
reported cases each week. In Gueckedou, which was the origin of the outbreak, between 10 and 20
cases have been reported in each of the previous 30 weeks. Macenta, which borders Gueckedou,
has continued to report a high number of new cases (37?70) for the past five weeks.

Ebola: a new case reported to the regional hospital in Kindia

A young student at the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Conakry Gamal Abdel Naser, who came to do an internship to the regional hospital district residing in Yabara was confirmed positive for the hemorrhagic Ebola virus.

After the manifestation of these symptoms, health authorities in the Urban Community (CU) were immediately mobilized and evacuated him to the treatment center Donka. According to Dr. Bakary Conde, director of the regional hospital "the young came Sept. 16, 2014, and was admitted to the service of general medicine tired with vomiting and pain. After consultation, redness was found in the mouth. "

"The generalists, continues Dr. Conde, requested a consultation of the service of dentistry which was done and it was realized he had a epistaxis because he had a cup of blood in the nostrils and vomited blood.

Immediately, he was transferred to the treatment center Donka and he was confirmed positive. Currently, we have identified all contacts wherever he went. "

"Today, there are 21 contact cases including 13 cases of at the regional hospital. The spraying was done everywhere he has gone through our emergency Red Cross services, "he added.

The prefectural health director Dr. Mory Kindia Togba added: "This is the first time that a case of Ebola is declared in Kindia; before this case, we had to make arrangements while setting a crisis committee at Madina Oula and everywhere to be able to protect the population . "

"The first partner to assist is the federation Mounafangni (FMK). It sent a large amount of chlorine, bleach and soap. This is what has been distributed to all health centers in the prefecture and that helped a lot, "he says.

The DPS has also invited the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious Ebola cases, but also apply the hygienic rules washing hands with chlorine and bleach.

Hemorrhagic Ebola virus is a reality in West Africa, particularly in Guinea.

The latest revelation of the crisis committee shows that more than 605 people died in Guinea of which 70 health workers.

Ebola: new cases of deaths caused by people from Liberia Forest

The influx of people from Liberia, now severely affected by the disease Ebola, worried increasingly urban populations of N'Z?r?kor? and Lola where we talk about new cases of deaths these days by travelers from the neighboring country, have we learned.
...
According to a colleague reached by telephone in N'Z?r?kor? Monday, those travelers most of whom are infected with Ebola virus are fleeing Liberia to arrive in Guinea. Some people cross on foot while others, once at the borders are transported on a motorcycle to the city to escape the vigilance of the authorities, with the consequences that entails.

The same source says that a man carrying the virus came from Liberia and three members of his family have died in N'Z?r?kor? while yesterday in Gogota, a village of Lola, it is a a woman also from Liberia who passed away.

I would guess they don't know how widespread the disease is, they just know they want to get away from it. Maybe they have family or friends they are trying to reach. They may have heard that patients are being accepted or cured in another location. It could be any number of reasons.

Reports from Guinea show a slight fall in the number of new cases reported compared with each of
the past five weeks (figure 2). This fall is largely attributable to a drop in the number of new cases
reported from Macenta district, which had seen a surge in the number of new cases over the past
five weeks.
