Urgent: suspected Coronavirus case reported to Kankan

A suspected case of Coronavirus has just been reported to Kankan. The announcement was made on Monday, March 30, 2020, by the regional health inspector during a meeting organized in the premises of the region's governorate, reports the correspondent of Guineematin.com in the prefecture.

The suspect is an expatriate of Belgian nationality, 64 years old. He arrived in Conakry on March 14, 2020 and went to Kankan on March 17. He is a technician recruited by Milo FC of Kankan, a football club playing in the Guinean second division. He began to experience symptoms similar to Covid-19 since March 26. But, it was only yesterday, Sunday March 29, that he presented himself at the Kankan epidemiological treatment center. He was immediately transferred to Conakry for screening.

It should be recalled that Guinea today has 22 confirmed cases of Coronavirus and more than 1000 contacts, some of which refuse to be followed up by the National Health Security Agency. The risk of spreading the disease across the country therefore remains very high.

Nineteen (19) people suspected of being affected by the Coronavirus are listed and followed up in the administrative region of Lab?. The announcement was made on Monday, March 30, 2020, by the regional director of health, reports a correspondent of Guineematin.com in Lab?.

After Conakry, where so far the positive cases of COVID-19 have been concentrated, the disease begins to affect the interior of the country. This is particularly the case for Lab?, where several suspected persons are listed. There are a total of 19 for the entire region, said Dr Mamadou Oudy Bah, the regional director of health.

Dr Mamadou Houdy Bah

“There are indeed suspicious cases who are currently staying at Lab?. All these people came from countries where there is the epidemic: Italy, Spain and Senegal. We have a list of all of these people returning from an endemic area. All arrangements are made to go and monitor them where they are. A contingency plan has been developed. In total, there are 19 of them. In the urban commune, these suspicious people are currently staying in the Mosque, Konkola, Doghol and Daka districts.

In the region, there is one who stays in Tougu?, another in L?louma and another Mali. At the moment, there is a citizen from Spain who stays in C?rima in the sub-prefecture of Popodara (Pr?fecture de Lab?), who is on his way to Conakry. In recent days, many voices have risen in particular on social networks to demand the quarantine of the Guinean capital to prevent the disease from arriving inside the country. But, at the pace things are going, this measure may come too late.

Guinea: 154 new Covid-19 positive cases in 4 days, the 400 mark crossed
By Samb Mbaye -
April 15, 2020
Coronavirus

The rate of spread of Coronavirus disease in Guinea is taking on more and more worrying proportions. In just 4 days, the country registered 154 positive cases, which has exacerbated the attention of public authorities, who are multiplying initiatives to stop this dynamic that threatens public health. Especially since the country has passed the 400 case mark.

The Coronavirus continues its exponential propensity in Guinea, with 154 positive cases identified in just 4 days. Test results released by the National Health Security Agency (ANSS) for the day on Tuesday, April 14, show 41 new cases of coronavirus, following tests on 315 people. With such results, Guinea has now passed the 400 patient mark. Indeed, there are now 404 confirmed cases of Covid-19, including 41 cured. A situation more than worrying which pushes the public authorities to take measures, to counter this dangerous progression.

It is in this context that the state of health emergency has been extended until May 15 and even reinforced with new measures such as the compulsory wearing of masks by anyone leaving their home. It should be added that President Alpha Cond? made the wearing of community masks or bibs compulsory as of Saturday April 18, 2020 and the recalcitrants are facing a traffic ban, in addition to a monetary fine of 30,000 GNF. President Alpha Cond? also made public, through a decree read on national television, the list of members of the executive committee of Riposte's Scientific Council on Coronavirus.

The board is made up of 17 experts from several fields. It is a think tank responsible for making "relevant recommendations to strengthen the effectiveness of the national response to the Covid-19 pandemic". The members of this committee are experts from several fields. The said council is chaired by Professor Yolande Izazy, professor of obstetric gynecology at the Faculty of Health Sciences and Technologies.

The vice-presidents are, Pr Moustapha Diop Keita, anthropologist, dean of the faculty of Social Sciences of the General Lansana Cont? University of Sonfonia and Pr Mamadou Y?ro Boiro, biologist, Director general of the Research Institute in applied biology of Guinea in Kindia and with as General Rapporteur, Pr Mamadou Aliou Bald?, pharmacist, Director General of the Research and Development Institute of Medicinal and Food Plants of Guinea, President of the Academy of Sciences.
