Guinea-Bissau reported on Thursday, May 21, 2020, 20 new cases of Covid-19 infection, bringing the total number of cases to 1,109.
"Out of 92 tests performed in the past 24 hours, 20 returned positive," said Dionisio Cumba, coordinator of the Center for Emergency Health Operations (COES), adding that more patients were waiting for the results of their second tests to be declared cured.
The authorities of Guinea-Bissau have decided to replace the Interministerial Commission for the Prevention and Combating of COVID-19 with a High Commissioner in order to change the prevention strategy and better coordinate all the measures put in place to stem the COVID-19 pandemic. .
The decision was made Wednesday evening at a meeting chaired by President Embalo and Prime Minister Na Biam. The latter would appoint a high commissioner for the COES who would work under the supervision of the president of the country.

"We are going to put in place a new strategy in order to fight effectively against the COVID-19 virus, under the supervision and diligence of the President of the Republic. We are planning several measures and a working group will be set up to follow up on these measures, ”said Na Biam, on her Facebook page.
In order to limit the spread of the virus in the country, the authorities have taken several restrictive measures, including the closing of borders, markets, bars, restaurants, schools, places of worship, as well as the prohibition of gatherings and limiting the movement of people.
President of the Republic Umaro Sissoco Embalo has extended the state of emergency until May 26 and the wearing of masks is compulsory in public spaces and in transport.
To date, Guinea-Bissau has 1,109 cases of COVID-19, including 42 healings and six deaths.
