2 new cases of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis confirmed, 1 relapse

Two cases of tuberculosis have been confirmed on Guam, according to the Department of Public Health and Social Services, who informed the community in a press release on Monday.

DPHSS reported that the two new cases are multidrug-resistant tuberculosis. A relapsed case is also being treated.

“The initial Guam MDR-TB case is linked to a 2021 outbreak in the U.S. This case was a TB contact in the mainland outbreak who moved back to Guam and started developing TB symptoms recently. This individual was confirmed to have MRD-TB, as they were resistant to four of the first-line TB treatments,” Public Health said.
