ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – Health authorities have confirmed that one of Grenada’s nine coronavirus (COVID-19) patients sneaked out of the island with his wife and child.

This was confirmed by coordinator of the COVID-19 Response Committee, Dr George Mitchell, who did not say when they left the country.

The unnamed individual is one of two persons who were sitting in close proximity to another person who later tested positive and who arrived in the island on a flight from the United Kingdom on March 16.

All persons tested positive for COVID-19 are placed in home quarantine, once symptoms are displayed, is in keeping the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for home quarantine.

They are also required to keep in contact daily with the relevant health authorities.

Mitchell, a former chief medical officer, did not provide details about the man but research later revealed that his decision was unknown to health authorities in Grenada.

NUMBER OF CORONAVIRUS CASES IN GRENADA REACHES 12

Health Minister Nicholas Steele has announced two more persons have tested positive for the coronavirus in Grenada bringing the total to twelve.

In a brief address to the nation Friday, the minister said that one of the two new cases is a 73 year old man who came into the country from the United Kingdom and the other is a 70-year old taxi-driver.

He stated that the person from the UK became symptomatic on 31 March and was tested on April 1 after he started to exhibit symptoms of the deadly disease.

According to the senior government minister, this individual came with his wife who has also been placed under quarantine.

In the case of the local taxi-driver, he had close contact with a person who had previously tested positive for the virus.

Minister Steele said that both individuals are in stable conditions but have been exhibiting “mild to moderate symptoms” of the disease.

However, he told the nation that two of the previous positive cases have developed certain complications and are currently receiving treatment in the ICU unit at the St. George’s General Hospital.

Minister Steele disclosed that 45 persons in Grenada have since been tested in connection with the COVID-19 disease.

Dr George Mitchell, National Covid-19 Response Coordinator, said on Friday said that Grenada’s Covid-19 confirmed cases now stand at 13, because two of the 47 pending results tested positive. “This brings our overall testing total to 92 of which 14 have tested positive; however, only 13 cases here on Island,” Dr Mitchell said in an update statement broadcast on the Government Information Service (GIS).

During a news conference on Thursday, Health Minister, Nickolas Steele, said that results were pending for 47 persons and that result would be disclosed on Friday.

The 47 whose gender was not disclosed, are the first batch of persons to be tested since Grenada received approval for on-island testing. Before the on-island testing ability, all of Grenada’s tests were conducted at the lab of the Caribbean Public Health Agency (CARPHA) in Trinidad.

“Those results come from the individuals who are, who were, who may have come into contact with our 12 confirmed cases. A couple of them are individuals who have shown symptoms that cause some reason of concern that caused the team to do testing,” Steele told journalists on Thursday.

Dr Mitchell did not provide a breakdown of the 2 new cases but said that they were related to an already confirmed patient. “Both individuals are related to one of the cases previously announced. Both of these individuals are stable. Let me assure that all our positive cases and their contacts are under quarantine.”

Dr Mitchell who is the immediate former Chief Medical Officer, reminded the nation that the Ministry of Health team continues to rigorously enforce and enhance quarantine and isolation measures, and the police have been a diligent partner in ensuring that guidelines are observed

Health Minister Nickolas Steele said that 6 of Grenada’s 13 confirmed Covid-19 cases were declared recovered on Thursday, as samples from them have tested negative for the coronavirus that is responsible for the contagion.

Steele made the announcement to parliamentarians during a special sitting of the House of Representatives on Friday. Grenada’s last confirmed case was on 10 April 2020. “11 tests were done on Thursday and I am happy to report that they were all negative,” he said. “6 of these were persons were confirmed positive, so they are officially recovered,” he added.

The Health Minister did not say who the 6 were, however, it is documented that Grenada’s index patient who was a passenger from the UK had infected 5 other persons in her household. The 50-year-old female arrived in Grenada from the United Kingdom on board a Virgin Atlantic flight which landed at Maurice Bishop International Airport on 16 March 2020. She was confirmed within days of arrival.

Dr Francis Martin, Acting Chief Medical Officer, explained that 5 new samples were people who showed signs of symptoms of Covid-19. Grenada which recently was approved to conduct on-island testing, has tested almost 100 samples.

Grenada is still under a limited state of emergency with restrictions being lifted cautiously on a weekly basis. Grenada: Cluster of COVID-19 cases confirmed at one workplace

ST. GEORGE’S, Grenada, Apr. 29, CMC -Health authorities have confirmed that four of eight persons who tested positive for COVID-19, are co-workers from company that has since been ordered to shut its doors to the public.

The workplace is Caribbean Agro Industries, it is Grenada's lone flour mill which is owned by the USA firm ADM. The company imports wheat from the United States and mills it into flour and animal feed.

The tally is now 19 positives but of that amount, only 18 are on the island because one of the early cases left the island without medical permission before receiving his result...
