ATHENS, Greece -- Greece has recorded its first serious case of the H1N1 flu, a 33-year-old man hospitalised in intensive care with pneumonia symptoms, the health ministry announced on Tuesday (July 21st). So far, Greece has reported more than 300 cases, but there have been no fatalities.
Meanwhile in Tirana, the Public Health Institute said on Wednesday that three sailors from the Philippines have tested positive for the H1N1 flu. They are at a hospital in the port city of Durres. On Tuesday, Albania confirmed its first swine flu case, in a 20-year old student in Gjirokastra. A British 16 y/o third serious swine flu case in Greece

The Health Ministry of Greece announced today July 28 2009, two (2) serious swine flu cases. A 16 years old girl from the United Kingdom admitted to Penteli Kids Hospital with heavily breath difficulty and confirmed that she is infected from novel flu virus. She is being treated at the intensive care. This is the third serious H1N1 virus case in Greece.
Earlier today a man 43 years old was admitted to a Heraklion ? Crete hospital with serious breath problems (pneumonia). After several medical examinations confirmed that he is infected from H1N1 virus (Swine flu) and is being treated at the intensive care ward.
On July 21, a 32 years old from Greece was admitted to a Greek hospital also with pneumonia
42 year old man was admitted into the University Hospital in Iraklio, Crete with e serious bronchopneumonia after being infected with the H1N1 virus. This is the second serious swine flu case in Greece. One week ago another man was admitted with the same symptoms in ER of the same hospital. The 42 year old man is on IV in an isolated room, because there are no free beds in the ER in Iraklio. The patient had felt sick four days ago, when he went to the hospitals to make some tests. While he was waiting for the test results, his condition went for the worst and today he went to the hospital, where the doctors found out that both of his lungs are damaged.
Health minister Dimitris Avramopoulos said today that Greece will be among the first countries, which will receive the vaccine against the new virus and it will be enough for the whole population. The first vaccine package is expected in September. According to the minister, there is clarity about the pandemic in the medical field but the Greek government is preparing for the worst case scenario. The National plan for fight against swine flu is being updated every 15 days in relation to how fast the disease spreads.
Diabetes sufferer in ICU after contracting H1N1 virus
A 58-year-old woman suffering from diabetes and serious kidney problems was yesterday transfered to the intensive care unit of an Athens hospital after being diagnosed with swine flu.
The woman is the eighth person to be admitted to an ICU after contracting the H1N1 virus.
Last Sunday, a 23-year-old heart patient died of complications linked to swine flu.
More than 1,800 cases of H1N1 have been recorded in Greece with around 60 percent of them visitors from abroad, according to the Health Ministry.
