ATHENS – Greece’s total number of confirmed infections of COVID-19 is now 352, said the Health Ministry’s coronavirus spokesman and infectious diseases Professor Sotiris Tsiodras at the daily briefing to reporters on Monday.

Tsiodras said that there were 21 new cases since Sunday.

The source of infection for 51 cases is undetermined, he added. Of the total 352, 65 patients are hospitalized in Athens, Thessaloniki and Patras, and of these 9 are in Intensive Care Units.

Coronavirus cases rise to 387 as fifth death reported

Greek Health Ministry spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras on Tuesday announced 35 new coronavirus infections, bringing total to 387, adding that one more patient has died, pushing the death toll to five.

Tsiodras added that 14 people who had been treated after contracting the virus have been released.

ATHENS – There were 35 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Greece in the last 24 hours, health ministry spokesperson and infectious diseases expert Prof. Sotiris Tsiodras announced on Saturday, during the daily press briefing at the ministry.

This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Greece to 530, of which 98 are “community infections” of untraceable origin. Of these, 100 have been admitted to hospital, 18 are intubated and 19 have been discharged, while 13 people have died.

The Greek government announced a total lockdown in the country starting Monday morning, as coronavirus cases continue to rise.

As of 6 a.m., all nonessential transport and movement of people will be prohibited, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a televised address.

Greeks will only be allowed to go to work, to buy food or medicine, visit a doctor, walk a pet, exercise by themselves or in groups of two. They must carry an ID, and the reason for their movements has to be confirmed by their employer or by themselves.

Mitsotakis said this step “must be taken on time, so it is not taken in vain.

“In Italy unfortunately, one person is lost every two minutes … We must not reach the point where we choose who will live and who will be lost.”

Greece has 624 confirmed cases, with 15 deaths from COVID-19 so far, according to Greek authorities.

Greek health authorities announced on Tuesday afternoon that the total number of deaths related to the Covid-19 pandemic had risen to twenty.

The total number of diagnosed Covid-19 coronavirus cases is now 743 in the entire country, as 48 new cases were confirmed in the last twenty-four hours.

The majority of the cases continue to be recorded in the region of Attica, and most of the victims are male.

Sotiris Tsiodras, the Health Ministry spokesperson for the Covid19 coronavirus outbreak, said on Monday that according to their mathematical models, Greek authorities believe that approximately eight to ten thousand people must have contracted the virus in Greece so far.

Greece’s Civil Protection Deputy Minister, Nikos Hardalias presented the government’s daily coronavirus briefing on Wednesday where it was announced the country had 78 news cases and 22 deaths to date.

During the press briefing, medical expert Sotiris Tsiodras, confirmed that Greece had reached 821 cases in total, out of which 134 people are hospitalised, most of whom (60%) are men, and of these 53 are in intensive care wards (average age of the latter, 67 years, mostly men and all with underlying medical conditions).

According to Tsiodras, the data suggests there is no exponential growth of infections from day to day, but 22 have died since the outbreak of the pandemic in Greece (average age: 75, 18 men, 4 women, all with underlying conditions). In addition, 36 people have been discharged from hospitals, and 10,000 diagnostic tests have taken place.

Six more deaths and 95 new Covid-19 cases in Greece

The death toll from Covid-19 in Greece is 38, according to a spokesman for the new coronavirus ministry Sotiris Tsiodras, who said six more deaths were reported from the virus. There were also 95 new cases confirmed in the country, with a total of 1,156. Most cases are located in Attica. A total of 69 patients are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Units. The temporary ban on the operation of the stores is extended until April 11 , according to Deputy Minister of Civil Protection N. Chardalias.

Greek government expert and spokesman Sotiris Tsiodras on Monday confirmed that the death toll from Covid-19 in Greece has risen to 43 at regular press briefing on Monday, adding that new reported infections came to 56, down from Sunday’s 95.

Doctors at Greece’s public health agency conducted tests on 383 crew members of a passenger ship anchored off Piraeus, near Athens and 20 tested positive, health ministry officials said.

Since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, medical personnel, human rights groups and others have warned of catastrophe if COVID-19 spreads to the roughly 60,000 refugees living in often-squalid camps in Greece.

Now the virus has arrived. This week, at least 20 refugees living in the Ritsona camp, near Athens, have tested positive for COVID-19. The camp is now on lockdown for the next two weeks...

ATHENS – The Health Ministry’s coronavirus spokesman and infectious diseases professor Sotiris Tsiodras on Thursday evening announced 27 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Greece in the last 24 hours, and 3 new deaths.

He did however elaborate that the final figure of infections includes 23 infections at the Ritsona hotspot and another 49 infections onboard the Eleftherios Venizelos ferry which is anchored off the port of Piraeus.

Therefore the Covid-19 infections total in Greece stands at a provisional 1,514 which may change by day’s end, as new data kept coming in before the briefing, he noted..

Officials in Greece on Sunday placed a second migrant camp near Athens under lockdown after an Afghan man tested positive for the coronavirus, the migration ministry said.

Officials said the camp in Malakasa, some 38km northeast of the capital, had been placed under "full sanitary isolation" for 14 days, with no one allowed to enter or leave.

Police guarding the site would be reinforced to ensure the restrictions are implemented, the ministry said...

...Greece recorded its first case of the new coronavirus at the end of February. Since then, it has confirmed 1,673 cases of Covid-19 and 68 deaths...
