Changes in the polar pole magnetism may show some correlation. There are changes in magnetism prior to many, but not all, major earthquakes.

I only know very little about this subject area, and just pick up on data from time to time. Therefore i apologise if my comments seem a little uninformed.
However, i seem to remember that we are about 200,000 years overdue for a polar flip, where the poles reverse. In the build up, it is predicted that many areas of magnetic anomaly will appear on the earths surface - mini areas of magnetic storm if you will, and in multiple locations. A bit like sun spots. I also gather that these have been increasing in frequency all over the planet.
Perhaps a linkage here? if so we may be in for yet more geo disturbances. I also wonder if the numbers of volcanic eruptions are similarly increased? That said, it all could be part of a normal cylce. 100 years is a mere blip in time in the context of the history of the earth.

The earth's magnetic polar flip is not to be confused with the solar polar flip, which occurs more frequently & can be expected to cause changes in 2012.
