Note: This chart is based on 1268 deaths. The number of H1N1 deaths around the world varies slightly among agencies because of reporting delays and inconsistent counting practices.

The last line must signify 8/14. A bit of a jump there.

True. But if a couple lines before it were a little under reported it would make a smoother exponential curve wouldn't it?

Slithers - the trend is clear. The irregular spikes in the overall counts is due to the fact that I am not updating the data every day. Here is a list of the most recent dates (data points). Because of the small size of the graph the dates without associated data are not always obvious.

I agree, the trend is clear. And the graph conveys the nature of the death rate well. Meanwhile the days are getting longer in the northern hemisphere. >8-P

The graph below shows that, although the number of world wide deaths from novel H1N1 varies form day to day, the overall number of worldwide deaths from novel H1N1 appears to still be rising. The trend line in the graph is for illustrative purposes only and should not be interpreted as the worldwide rate of increase of novel H1N1 deaths. <o:p></o:p>

Is this data/graphs separated by hemisphere? Shouldn't the north be lower than the south, but catching up quickly?

Is someone doing this analysis with Gapminder somewhere - H1 deaths by air pollution index, asthma prevalence, poverty, etc?

A good starting page at Wikipedia is 2009 flu pandemic.

The data for the graph is compiled from the tables at this link: 2009 flu pandemic by country. The data seems to be updated almost everyday by Wikipedia participants. Each county name in the list is an active hyperlink to drill down on the H1N1 data. All of the data numbers are supported by a hyperlink to the source of the information.

Counts of H1N1 infections by country posted at Wikipedia are suspect (as noted in the Wikipedia footnote) because many countries have stopped testing for and counting H1N1 cases. However, counts of H1N1 deaths should still be a useful metric of the spread of this pandemic.

You are correct that fluctuations in the number of influenza infections vary inversely between the Northern and Southern Hemisphere depending on the local seasons. The data is available for anyone who may want to graph out those changes.

Thanks for the reference to Gapminder, I was not aware of its existence.
