Earlier recognition that this was a novel virus outbreak might have helped in its containment before it spread throughout much of the world. The period from the onset of the first case on March 10th, to mid April was a lost block of time that could have been used to better prepare if the novel nature of the infections had been recognized.
yes, I agree. I hope they turn out to be accurate. But I want to add one other note about the Mexico graph. At least 100 of these confirmed cases (before April 17) are retrospectively confirmed cases. Cases that were confirmed after the fact. This is because Mexico did not have a clear understanding that they were dealing with a novel virus until the death of a woman in Oaxaca around the middle of April. By that time, according to the graph, there were at least 100 infected individuals in Mexico.I am sure we will all breathe a sigh of relief if they prove to be accurate.
