The college's interim president confirmed the news to students and faculty in a letter that said Kris Kerstiens was hospitalized early last week and later died.
"Kris Kerstiens, an off-campus resident, was admitted to a local hospital early last week with flu-like symptoms. The illness advanced to the point that he developed acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which led to his death this weekend," Interim President Jane Monnig Atkinson explained in the letter.
