Govt failed to contain dengue fever: PPP

KARACHI: Expressing serious concern over spreading of dengue fever and detection of new cases of polio in Sindh, PPP leader, MNA, Dr Fehmida Mirza, has termed the situation as alarming and failure on the part of provincial and city governments to contain the epidemic.
She said that the viral haemorrhagic fever has sent a wave of concern and chaos among the people of Karachi and Hyderabad.
The PPP leader said that the city Nazim had already admitted that around 1,000 dengue cases had been reported in the city and some 300 patients were stated to be in a serious condition.
She said that Sindh health secretary also had admitted that four new cases of polio had been detected in Sindh. Dr Fehmida said that the admission of the authorities concerned proved that the government had failed in taking appropriate measures from further worsening the situation.
She said that poor and middle class citizens are concerned about the life-threatening virus owing to their inability to afford the treatment charges. She said despite completion of over 52 rounds of anti-polio rounds, the endemic is yet to be eradicated from Sindh and Pakistan, which proved that the government was not capable of running the affairs of the state. She said it was doubted that anti-polio measures had never been up to mark in the province.
APP ADDS: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad directed the Health department and local governments to further strengthen measures to combat dengue virus in the province. He also directed the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) and all 18 towns to carryout fumigation in the metropolis at the same time to make the steps effective in this regard.
The governor stressed upon people to follow the instructions of experts regarding prevention of this disease and to ensure spray in their houses, use of nets and other preventive measures.
Ebad said the required results in this regard can be achieved only through collective efforts and by ensuring precautionary measures.
He emphasised upon doctors to treat the patients of dengue fever and hemorrhagic fever very carefully.
