Goldman Sachs' mumps cases prompts Health Department warning for employees

The New York City Health Department took the steps after reports last week that mumps was spreading among employees on one of Goldman Sachs' trading floors.
?The Health Department recommended standard outbreak control procedures to Goldman Sachs officials that included: identifying exposed persons, educating individuals about symptoms and making sure sick employees stay home," said Danielle De Souza, an agency spokeswoman.
Health Department officials referred questions about the outbreak, such as how many people contracted mumps, to the company.
Goldman Sachs disputed the health department's characterization of the exposure as an outbreak, and noted three employees have contracted mumps in recent months from unrelated sources.
"There has not been an outbreak at Goldman Sachs," Spokeswoman Tiffany Galvin-Cohen said. "As part of best practices to maintain a healthy workplace for our employees, whenever a communicable disease such as mumps or chicken pox present in the workplace, we follow standard guidelines to prevent spread of the infection to others."
