Golden View Care Center offers presentation on influenza September 22

Golden View Health Care Center invites the public to attend a special presentation on Tuesday, Sept. 22, at 6 p.m. by Lakes Region Public Health Nurse Coordinator Karin Salome.

Salome, a registered nurse who holds a bachelor's degree in nursing, has worked with area agencies and organizations for more than 16 years coordinating public health efforts, emergency planning and educating health professionals and the community at large. She will talk about the difference between seasonal influenza and novel influenza, like the H1N1 flu virus. Furthermore, the presentation will include information regarding:

?Importance of vaccinations, who should get vaccinated and where to go.

?Who's at risk?

?Things you can do to avoid getting sick: proper hand washing and other infection control practices.

?Symptoms and what to look for.

?Guidelines and treatment options for those with the flu.



The Golden View Community works closely with Salome and other state and local organizations to mobilize community partnerships and actions to identify and solve health problems; develop policies and plans that support individual and community health efforts; inform, educate and empower people about health issues in order to ensure Golden View Community Residents and the community at large achieve an optimal level of health, well-being and independence.

This presentation is open to the public free of charge through Golden View's Community Benefit Program and in cooperation with Salome and the state Department of Health and Human Services as part of our continuing commitment of providing our community with information important to their health and well being.
