Goju Takes Action

I can no longer sit silently by as i watch my neighbors live their lives blissfully unaware of the Pandemic Potential of H5N1.

I thank all of you who have helped me these past 2 years reach the point where i feel confident in my knowledge of all aspects to an H5N1 Panedmic.

I have come to the conclusion that Strict SIP will not work.

There will be a time when I have to go out in search of something we need.
There will be a time when my neighbor will have to go out to find what they need. We can prep till we own Costco and Home Depot... but I can guarentee it won't be enough.

If we all stay home, civilization doesn't have a snowballs chance in hell of continuing..... so.... I have made the brave move:

This morning I called the First Selectmens office at Town Hall and I now have a meeting set up for Fri morning Sept 22. All emergency departments will be there. He reponded quickly when i dropped the names NBC, Safe America, major corporations, CDC, WHO, HHS, Homeland Security, UN's Dr Nabarro.

I am to make a presentation on what I know.

I am resolute to get every resident in my town prepared in some way.
I am resolute to get every store to have a plan
I am resolute to get the school on board with pandemic education for our kids

I have been afraid since last year of letting anyone around me know too much.
Now I am afraid not to.

I will be assembling a presentation based on the Conference topics - revised for my town's needs and concerns.

I will pull no punches

The First Selectman started to tell me of our town's emergency plans including seting up the Middle School as a Vax center

I stopped him mid sentence:

"excuse me for interupting sir, but I must stop you. There is and will be no vaccine. You would be handing a death sentence to this town if that is your plan."

He stopped and listened to me for a moment and then set up the meeting.

Truthfully (and i have never not been on these boards) i am frightened to "come out". But I HAVE TO DO IT.

I am compelled by my knowledge, the Conference, my one on one with Nabarro and all of your heartfelt thanks and thoughts.

It is time folks for us all to come clean... we cannot survive alone. You need your neighbors to be as prepared as you are.

To lose 100 pounds, you start with ONE.

We are in the unique position of owning the best prep there is - KNOWLEDGE. It IS power. We must prepare - not scare (although when i am through they will be).

Goju is taking action..... lets all work together and all take action in our towns... and just maybe, we'll see each other on the other side of the horror coming our way.

When asked if i have preps, i will say what Nabarro said to me:
a moments silence.... a look in the eye.... "yes, but i'd rather not talk about it".

Peace to you all.
Goju

Can someone please post my report and this post onto Curevents FC - even though they banned me last year, they should know about this. Thanks

Re: Goju Takes Action

Bravo!!

Goju - Coming out of the closet is what all of us have to do to motivate others. Curevents did me a favor when they posted all of my personal information on their web site without my permission.

At that point I had nothing to lose.

I decided to "go for it" and began openly identifying myself on the internet and began a full effort to illuminate and assist with the efforts to help lessen morbidity and mortality in a possible pandemic. Many humanitarians from around the world saw the light, the hope, and the grace of this site and joined to help.

FluTrackers is the result of that action.

You are a true humanitarian.

I call for all concerned citizens to follow Goju's example.

Re: Goju Takes Action

Goju, I will be waiting to hear how they respond. You have inspired me to talk to my neighbours. If we all talked to our neighbours, and they talked to theirs, just maybe, we can get word out before this hits.

Re: Goju Takes Action

excellent news Goju. You're very knowledgeable and should have no issues facing any tough questions. Please keep us up to date on your progresss.

My thought and prayers will be with you. You go Goju!!!

Please share your experience following this meeting. Would you also be willing to share your presentation?

Re: Goju Takes Action

in the past there was a major problem of H5N1 killing the eggs to make a vax... what has changed?

Re: Goju Takes Action

comments please

? In the past 300 years there have been 10 Pandemics approx 30 years apart.
? The longest time between pandemics in the past 300 years is 42 years
? We are at year 37 since the last Pandemic
? The 1918 Influenza Pandemic sickened about 30% of the world?s population
? The 1918 Pandemic caused between 50-100 million deaths worldwide
? The 1918 Pandemic virus had a CFR (case fatality rate) between 2.5% - 5%
? The current H5N1 Influenza virus has an average CFR of 50% with Hospitalization
? The H5N1 virus CRF in Indonesia is currently 79% with Hospitalization
? There is no evidence that H5N1 CFR is lowering.
? Studies have shown little if any antibodies to H5N1 in Asian poultry workers meaning very little if any mild H5N1 strains circulating
? There have been instances of limited human to human transmission as per the WHO
? Influenza is transmittable prior to symptoms showing unlike SARS
? The 1918 virus took months to circle the globe ? Modern air travel will shorten the time to weeks
? For an influenza virus to reach pandemic classification, it needs to fulfill 3 criteria - H5N1 has filled 2 of them
?There will be no vaccine for at least 6 months after the appearance of the Pandemic strain.
? As opposed to 1918, we now have a vulnerable JIT (Just In Time) delivery system putting our water, food and power systems at risk
? According to the experts, a Pandemic is Immenent.
? The message given at the Safe America Pandemic Conference was prepare now with 2 weeks supplies.

Re: Goju Takes Action

Goju,

I got my powerpoint presentation in the electronic mail to you. I also sent a second email with links in case the ppt is too large for your email acct. Included a handout I use as well.

Sorry my pm box is full. I don't have time to selectively empty it right now. Might have to wait til the rains come... and puts the fires out.

Take action, Dude! I'm all for it!

Re: Goju Takes Action

Thank you Mellie for that fantastic and through power point presentation. You gave been very generous in giving this presentation to several members to use.

Your selfless donations of both materials and time to FluTrackers has been very much appreciated.

Your humility is a hallmark of FluTrackers. We work "behind the scenes" with many experts and news organizations to help prepare them with materials and current information. Due to confidentiality concerns we do not disclose the details.

Thank you for your humanitarian contributions. Be assured that your efforts are recognized even if you do not seek this acknowledgment.

Re: Goju Takes Action

Goju- a couple of thoughts- based on how I'd personally present the concepts if it were me. YYMV! :)

I'd point out that illness and the fear of illness may delay repairs/ resortation of any part of the JIT system- ie, a snowstorm or ice storm taking down the electric service- might be hard to find people to fix it quickly, and shortages or failures could persist for months, even if the mortaility rate isnt as high as feared. Otherwise, people just assume "they'll fix it". Its what we're used to. They wont automatically realize that it could be different this time unless you point it out.

I'd say "Start with" two weeks (but thats just me! :) LOL) after all, amyone who does get the message is likely to see that 2 wks may not be enough- and if you say just two weeks, the implication is that its all you'd need. I think start with strikes a balance between overwhelming those new to the idea, but not losing credibility with those that "get it".

Might be worth pointing out that these preps are good for any emergency- not just flu. The experts think we should be prepared- these preps will meet that need.

Re: Goju Takes Action

Here is my plan...

i will start out by telling my story of H5N1 discovery:

" I began following H5N1 in June 2005 this is what I learned."

1 - 1997 - 18 people in Hong Kong infected, 6 die, Mice injected with the virus died within 24 hours - when trying to make vaccine, chicken eggs died - Dr Webster, world renown Flu expert says it the nastiest virus he has ever seen. They kill almost 2 million chickens averting a pandemic

2 - 2004 ? 44 people get sick in Vietnam and Thailand and 32 die.

3 - 2005 - Qinghai incident - H5N1 seems to have mutated - first time wild migratory birds die from a flu virus

4 ? I watched as began to Birds die in Kazakastn, Mongolia, Russia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and as new human cases occurred in Azerbejian, Cambodia, China, Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, South Korea, Turkey

5 - 2006 - multiple clusters in Indonesia with limited human to human spread - CRF 79%

Hand Out - I will show them the human cases chart which shows an increase of cases from 2005 - 2006

As a kid, I used to watch those 1950 monster movies, well this H5N1 is a real monster

6 - I have read the US, NYS, NYC and CT Pandemic Plans- they are based on a 2.5% CFR derived from the historical Spanish Flu of 1918 They are based on the assumption that we will have an effective vaccine - there will be no vaccine for at least 6 months we could be well into the 2nd wave by then. All of the plans discuss the possible isolation and quarantine of infected people and their families.

7- I have read the Costa School pandemic plan - it states that when 10% of the kids don?t show up to school they alert the health dept. H5N1 is killing the young - 70% of all fatalities were 25 years old or less. More than half are below 20 years old.

Hand Out - I will show them the age chart

In my town there are 3500 school kids - if 10% are home sick, and cfr is 10%, then we will have 35 deaths before the health dept is notified. That is unacceptable to me.

Many experts have said that when H5H1 becomes Pandemic, the CFR will come down. As we can see, the CFR from 2003 to 2006 has gone from 50% to 79% and that is with intensive medical care in hospitals well equipped to treat H5N1 patients. If H5N1 does not fit the planned 2.5 % CFR the plan will not work.

So what can we do?

In 1918 Philidelphia had a horrendous death rate - in 2 weeks 14,000 people died.

In St Louis there were very few deaths. The difference was in how the city gov handled things. Where Philadelphia held a big parade in support of the war and did not enforce social distancing, St Louis acted quickly and closed schools, churches? etc.

Hand Out - I will them show them the charts of this from the CDC presentation from the Conference

The only thing we can do is to prepare our residents for SIP for upwards of 3 months. Long enough for the first wave to pass our community and hopefully give the government enough time to regroup and get food, water and power distribution systems running again.

Anything short of that is handing our residents a death sentence.

Hand Out - I will then give them the Gunnison CO report on what they had no infections and no deaths

Re: Goju Takes Action

Goju
I'm sure you taking actions will inspire many people who have been sitting on the fence to take H5N1 more seriously. Also your actions will inspirer those who have keep quite about about their preparations to reach out to help others get organized. I admirer your new found passion. I hope it's contagious. :)
