Bindiya Chari | TNN | Jun 11, 2017, 03.36 AM IST

Panaji: Going by the single H1N1 influenza (swine flu) death reported in the state over the last six months and 27 cases of detection, the number of reported incidents of the disease has declined considerably. The directorate of health services, however, is not leaving anything to a chance.
As the name suggests, swine flu is an infection caused by strains of influenza viruses that are endemic in pigs. As many as 52 cases of the disease were detected in Goa in 2009, when many other countries also witnessed an outbreak. Five people died of H1N1 in the state that year. But it was in 2015 that the state was worst hit. Of the 193 people who tested positive for the disease, 19 died.
