Glaxo Bests Baxter in Swine Flu Vaccine Test
GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE: GSK - News) might have a more effective swine flu vaccine than Baxter International (NYSE: BAX - News) after a trial of 900 children between the ages of 6 months and 12 years showed a stronger immune reaction to Glaxo's vaccine than Baxter's vaccine, according to Bloomberg.
The British Medical Journal recorded the results of an apparently superior Glaxo swine-flu vaccine, but also demonstrated a more widespread reaction to Glaxo's vaccine; symptoms included fever, skin tenderness and swelling. However, Glaxo insisted that these reactions are temporary and minor, especially when measured against the 18,000 deaths caused worldwide by swine-flu.
