An 11-year-old cancer survivor who was hospitalized with a head injury is now recovering from third-degree burns after her shirt mysteriously caught fire in a Portland, Ore., hospital room.

The girl, Ireland Lane, had been painting in her room at Doernbecher Children?s Hospital, ABC affiliate KATU reported. Moments later, she ran into the hallway screaming, with her T-shirt aflame.

?I?ve been in medicine going back 30 years now and never heard anything like this. And hopefully I never will again,? Dr. Stacy Nicholson, physician-in-chief at Doernbecher Children?s Hospital, told KATU...

There was an update on this story on the news tonight with more details. Olive oil that was used to remove surgical adhesive is believed to have been a third contributing factor to the fire.
There's a video interview at the link. This is a very strong little girl. She is already recovering enough from her 3rd degree burns to be walking. She says that 30 of her friends have died from cancer, and she prays for strength every day so she can go home again with her family.

PORTLAND - A young, hospitalized girl in Portland who was burned in a bizarre fire sparked by hand sanitizer and olive oil is proving her strength as she recovers from her injuries....
