GILBERT - The flu kills tens of thousands of Americans each year, typically striking the elderly. So when it took the life of a young high school football player, it sent shock waves through an east valley community.

This year's flu bug killed a healthy, teenaged athlete, in the prime of his life. This happened so fast.The Higley High School student was diagnosed with the flu on a Tuesday, and three days later he was dead.
