Cholera kills 10 in Volta Region...several hospitalised

Information reaching Today indicates that ten (10) people have died from cholera outbreak in some parts of the Volta Region.

According to the sources, five of the deaths were recorded in Akatsi South while the sixth death was recorded in Adidome and four were recorded at the Battor-Aveyime Traditional area in the North Tongu District.

Health Alert! Over 200 cholera cases recorded in Accra


Over 200 cases of Cholera have been recorded within two weeks in the Greater Accra region, raising concerns about the sanitation situation in the region?s busy centres.

Health officials say they are marveled by the increase in the figures and say they intend intensifying their sensitization programmes.

Last week, there reports of an outbreak of the disease in parts of the Upper East Region following the floods in the area.

From January 2012 to September 2012 alone, 50 Ghanaians have died from cholera, while 5,800 cases have been reported at the country?s hospitals and health centres.
These figures from the Ghana Health Service (GHS) were relayed by Hon. Enoch T. Mensah, Minister for Water Resources, Works and Housing, when he delivered a statement Monday, October 15, 2012 in Accra, at a national durbar to mark five years of Global Handwashing Day celebration.

Tarkwa, Nov. 1, GNA - The Tarkwa Government Hospital in the Western Region, within a week, has recorded 30 cases of cholera in the Tarkwa Nsueam Municipality.
Dr. Ebenezer Acquah, Medical Superintendent of the hospital, who disclosed this to the media on Thursday, said though no death had been recorded, it was important for people to be careful of what they consume.
Mr Acquah said most of the cholera cases reported to the hospital were from communities such as Cyanide, Nkamponase, Bankyim, Nzemaline, Esuoso and some areas around Tarkwa.

Cholera Outbreak: Six deaths recorded in Ejura


Six people have reportedly died as a result of the cholera outbreak in Ejura in the Ashanti Region within seven days.

According to a local journalist in the area, Musah Inuwa, the Ejura Government Hospital has recorded more than twenty-six cholera cases during the week...

Diarrhoea Hits Cape Coast

Information reaching DAILY GUIDE yesterday indicated that there had been an outbreak of diarrhoea in the Cape Coast metropolis.

Six cases had so far been recorded at two hospitals in the metropolis, Ankaful Government Hospital and University Hospital.

It is not clear whether it had something to do with the recent outbreak of cholera in the country, but health authorities ruled out cholera...

...There has been on outbreak of cholera in some parts of the country in the past two weeks.

In a related development, medical officers in Tarkwa Nsuem in the Western Region said they had recorded 63 cholera cases over the past two weeks.


Twenty-two were females, and 41, males.

The situation has been attributed to poor hygiene. No deaths have been recorded yet...

Cholera outbreak up at Tarkwa Nsueam
News Date: 15th November 2012


The Tarkwa Government Hospital has recorded an increasing number of cholera cases from certain parts of the Tarkwa Nsueam Assembly.

No death has been recorded yet. Victims who normally visit the hospital for treatment on the outbreak come mainly from areas such as Akyempim, Old Town, Cyanide, Bankyim, Nkamponase and Esuoso.

Briefing the Ghana News Agency on the current situation of the epidemic on Wednesday, the Municipal Disease Control Officer, Mr. Ebenezer Tetteh said a total of 140 cases had been recorded since the disease was detected two weeks ago.
