Ghana Health Service says it is investigating some suspected cases of dengue fever.

This is after the detection of some cases in Lome, Togo.

The director of public health at the GHS, Dr Franklyn Asiedu Bekoe, said the suspected cases are currently being tested in the laboratories.

“We have received reports of suspected cases recently and are currently running tests on samples in the lab,” he told Asaase News.​..

GHS Declares Outbreak Of Dengue Fever; Confirms 9 Cases

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has officially declared an outbreak of Dengue fever in the Eastern region, confirming a total of nine cases thus far.

The announcement was made through a statement signed by Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye, the Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, following the detection of unusual cases of malaria-like illness in select districts within the Eastern Region.

Initially presenting as acute febrile illness and not responding to standard antimalarial treatments, samples from affected patients were sent to the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) for testing. Subsequent laboratory analysis confirmed the presence of Dengue fever in the identified cases which are currently being managed as non-severe instances from patients’ homes.

In response to this concerning development, a collaborative team comprising Entomologists and Epidemiologists from the national level has augmented the regional effort to conduct a thorough outbreak investigation...

The report on dengue fever has been alarming as it is spreading to different parts of the country with reports that it has moved from the Eastern to the Central Region in Ghana.

According to the Ghana Health Service (GHS), the total number of confirmed cases is 36. An inquiry has revealed an increase in malaria-like conditions in the affected regions, and more samples from suspected cases are being screened at the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR).​..

Ghana Health Service records over 100 cases of Dengue fever in 6 regions

The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe, has revealed that six regions in the country have recorded over one hundred 100 cases of Dengue fever.

​ The cases, he said are mild and are being managed at home while the Service remains on high alert.

He said the Eastern Region, which was the first to report some cases, remains the region with the highest case count, followed by the Central Region.

The Oti Region has 2 cases, the Ashanti Region 4; the Bono Region also has 4; and the Volta Region has 5 instances.

He stated that it is early days yet for the Dengue fever vaccines, but discussions are ongoing...
