The Veterinary Services Directorate of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has taken steps to disinfect a poultry farm at New Takoradi, a suburb of Tarkwa in the Western Region, after 300 birds were destroyed over a fresh outbreak of bird flu.

A team of veterinary and environmental officials at the weekend also stepped in and destroyed an additional 250 birds, eight crates of eggs, four bags of poultry feed, and empty egg crates suspected to have been infected with the disease.

Ghana reports fresh cases of bird flu outbreak
Ghana's deputy minister of Food and Agriculture Hannah Louisa Bissiw on Wednesday confirmed the outbreak of bird flu in the Western Region of the country.

The outbreak has hit an area near Takoradi city, some 225 km east of the capital, where authorities of the Veterinary Services Department have disinfected a poultry farm after 250 birds were destroyed over a fresh outbreak of avian flu.

Bird FluThe culling was to ward off further spread of the disease.

Bissiw said the smuggling of birds from neighboring countries into Ghana had played a key role in the latest development...
