Germany: Robert Koch Institute is testing blood of sheperds

5 maart 2012

Bloodsamples of 61 sheperds from SBV positive holdings in Nordrhein-Westfalen are being tested on antibodies against the Schmallenberg-virus.
There no indications of sheperd or other persons with healthproblems related to SBV.

Although at the moment nothing points to possible human infections, the RKI wants to be sure, the research is a precaution.

Placenta's and other material may contain a huge viral load, sheperds with infected sheep could have come in touch with that.
