Corona outbreak at T?nnies: "Health is jeopardized for profits of the meat barons"

Prime Minister Armin Laschet (CDU) of North Rhine-Westphalia urges vigilance in view of the corona virus outbreak in a meat factory in Rheda-Wiedenbr?ck. The example shows "how quickly" a virus spreads, "if distances are not kept, if accommodations are not in order, and it warns us to look again and again," said Laschet on Wednesday after the end of the prime ministerial conference in Berlin.

The case had nothing to do with the loosening of corona-related measures "because, of course, the food industry - including the meat industry - worked during the shutdown, when everything was closed."

The surge in infection numbers at T?nnies slaughterhouse was announced on Wednesday. The number of employees who tested positive for the coronavirus was around 660 on Wednesday evening. According to the district, around 7,000 people are in quarantine. In order to curb the spread of the virus, schools and daycare centers throughout the district were closed.
