Bird flu found in Emsland

gn Meppen / Herzlake. In Emsland the bird flu has been found. It would involve a mild form of the disease, divides the county government with in Meppen. Affected is a farm in Herzlake with about 36,000 laying hens in free range. "The animals have to be humanely killed," it said on Thursday.

Suspected bird flu have resulted from their own checks, which were now confirmed by official samples of the Lower Saxony State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety (LAVES). "The national reference laboratory of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute (FLI) on the island Riems announced on Thursday that it was the low pathogenic form of avian influenza (LPAI) with subtype H7 N7 is," says the district administration. A danger to humans did not exist at the mild form of bird flu.
