Bird Flu: First Case in Waldeck-Frankenberg
Gemünden. For the first time the bird flu virus H5N2 has been detected in Waldeck-Frankenberg. In three ducks that were kept in a hobby operated poultry flock in Gemunden, the virus already has been confirmed on 28 December 2012 .
The poultry population was culled, 59 animals had to be killed.
There also is a restricted area with a radius of one kilometer from the stock in question was built. Now there will be other studies. In the exclusion zone is still a working farm, which includes ten chickens are kept. With results of the studies are expected in the course of the present day. According to the official veterinarian Dr. Martin Rintelen of Veterinary of the district there is no danger for people, the virus could not be transmitted to them. The hobby farm on which the virus had been identified, has since been cleaned and disinfected.
