The Hagenbeck animal park remains closed for the time being because of the first bird flu detection in geese. How long this was necessary, a spokeswoman could not say at first.
Three geese of the park were tested positive for the currently Europe-wide course H5N8 variant. The animals were found dead on Monday in their stables. More steps are now being taken with experts, health authorities and official veterinarians to protect the remaining animals of the park in the best possible way.
Previously, other zoos already entered their poultry. Further cases in Japan, Romania and the North of France testify to the rampant disease, which is dangerous for birds, but which should be harmless to humans.
