On May 21, 2009, Robert Koch Institut (RKI; Germanys institute for the surveillance of infectious diseases), officially confirmed case 15 of new Influenza A (H1N1) in Germany. It?s a 43 year old woman, who returned from New York to the town of D?sseldorf after a one week travel in the United States. She had arrived at Germany on Friday, May 15, 2009, without having symptoms, but then ILI had begun at the beginning of this week.

Later on, German media reported Germany?s first case of new Influenza in a child. It?s the women?s 6 year old daughter, who obviously was infected either by her mother or by her father (40 years), who had also been in New York and meanwhile had been a confirmed H1N1-Influenza-case, too. The girl was hospitalised in the University Hospital of D?sseldorf for reasons of precaution, but is in good conditions. German Health Officials said, that there had been at least 200 possible contact persons on the flight and further possible in-country-transmissions in the kindergarten.
