In Saxony there is a first bird flu case. Founded at the middle of last week at the Cospudener lake near Leipzig, the highly pathogenic influenza virus H5N8 was detected, the regional council of the Leipzig district reported on Sunday in Borna. Therefore, three kilometers around the place of discovery, a restricted area was established.

All 22 known poultry owners were called, it said. The area is subject to poultry farming. Detected dead birds are to be reported immediately. Dogs and cats are not allowed to walk around freely. In addition, an area within a radius of 10 kilometers is well into the city of Leipzig into the observation zone. First, the online portal "Mopo 24" had reported.

On Sunday afternoon two more dead ducks were found on the Cospudener See, according to the Landratsamt. These are also being investigated for avian influenza, they said. The results should not be expected before Monday evening.
