Bird flu alert in the district of Cham

A farm in Roding is sealed off since early Sunday morning. Up to 13 000 animals to be culled in place.

RODING. in Cham district there is a case of bird flu. As the head of the Veterinary Office, Dr. Franz Wies Reiter, announced at a press conference on Sunday evening, it is the H5N2 virus. It runs for animals usually fatal, but is harmless to humans variant. Avian influenza had broken out on an operation in Roding. Since 4.45 clock ran around the yard a large-scale backup action. There is still the strictest prohibition order. Fire, police and civil protection have sealed off the affected zone, and the Agency for Technical Relief is in use.

The poultry on the farm - it's around 12 900 animals - is culled in place. Early morning, a specialized company had begun with the electrical slaughter of animals. It would involve laying hens, ducks, geese and turkeys, said Friedrich Schuhbauer, press spokesman for the district office. The arm may, in his words, only specially protected professionals enter, a more far-reaching exclusion zone will not set up for now.

Low Pathogenic Strain Confirmed

dec 7, 2015

The State government of Cham told, it is a low pathogenic variant of the influenza of subtype H5N2 pathogen.

This means that no more blocking and monitoring area should be established, which would have affected other poultry farms within a radius of three to ten kilometers of the operation. Instead, a smaller restricted area within a radius of at least one kilometer around the affected property will be set up immediately. In this area, poultry and eggs should not be sold. For poultry farmers also special hygiene requirements apply.
