Germany, Berlin: Suspected case- negative for ebola

A 30-year-old West African has been taken to Berlin's Virchow hospital after she showed symptoms of Ebola.

An employee at a Job Centre in Berlin's Pankow district told broadcaster rbb that one of her clients showed the early symptoms of the Ebola virus.

The patient had collapsed and emergency medical services were called.

According to the Berliner Zeitung, she said she had had contact with victims of the deadly disease in her homeland.

An initial assessment determined that the patient was showing symptoms of Ebola and the paramedics put in place quarantine measures, according to a spokesman for the Berlin fire department at the Job Centre on Storkower Strasse. The patient was immediately isolated in an ambulance.

In Berlin there is a suspicion of Ebola. In a Job Center in Prenzlauer Berg, a woman suffered a circulatory collapse. After she pointed out typical signs of the deadly infectious disease, she was transferred to the special isolation of the Virchow-Klinikum with their contact persons.

As the "Berliner Morgenpost" reported the job center was locked in Prenzlauer Berg on Tuesday on suspicion. Accordingly, the suspected case concerns a 30-year-old woman. She had initially suffered a circulatory collapse.

The police confirmed to ABC Online that you have blocked off the job center in the Storkower road for the fire brigade and this use is tantamount to an Ebola suspected.
"Suspicion of contagious disease"

The spokesman for the Berlin Fire Department, Sven Gerling, ABC Online said. "I can confirm that the suspicion of contagious disease is" given, whether it is to handle the virus Ebola, he could not say anything at this time.

Ebola can be detected only through a blood test. The process usually takes several hours. The Ebola virus has already claimed the lives of at the current epidemic in West Africa more than 1200 people. An introduction to Europe but is considered unlikely. In Germany so far all suspected cases have not been confirme

A modern lab can do it in a matter of hours.

But . . . patients often won't test positive until 48 hours AFTER symptoms first appear, and so two tests are often required to R/O Ebola roughly 48 hours apart.

She was taken for testing at Berlin's Virchow hospital. Doctors later said that Ebola was no longer suspected and that the woman was probably suffering from an intestinal infection, the Berliner Zeitung reported.
