Bird Flu Confirmed On Farm In Northern German State – Ministry

nov 5, 2020

BERLIN: Bird flu type H5N8 was discovered on a poultry farm in Schleswig-Holstein, northern Germany, the state Agriculture Ministry said on Thursday after it had already spread among the region’s wild bird population.

Eight chickens died in a short period of time on a state farm, the ministry said, adding that the rest of the poultry on the farm had been professionally slaughtered and disposed of.
Earlier this year, a case of H5N8 avian influenza was confirmed at a poultry farm in the northern state of Lower Saxony.

First outbreak of avian influenza in domestic poultry in Schleswig-Holstein - FLI assesses the risk of further contamination as high

05/11/2020 Short messages

On November 4th Avian influenza / HPAIV H5N8 was found in laying hen keeping on the Hallig Oland in Schleswig-Holstein. The current situation is highly dynamic, more and more dead finds are being sighted and randomly tested, the number of birds tested positive for HPAIV H5 is increasing daily. Further cases of wild birds are to be expected, and accordingly the risk of inputs into domestic poultry populations is still high. This does not change the risk assessment of the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut, the updated version contains further data on the situation in the countries concerned.

Avian influenza detected in wild bird in the Cuxhaven district

November 5th, 2020, 5:53 pm | dpa

After the evidence of avian influenza, which is highly contagious for animals, in a mallard shot in the district of Cuxhaven, the Ministry of Agriculture calls on poultry farmers to be vigilant. Agriculture Minister Barbara Otte-Kinast (CDU) called for farms to protect their stocks and systematically implement appropriate security measures. In the past few days, infected dead wild birds have also been found in other northern German coastal countries.
