Oldenburg (dpa) - In a turkey fattening stable in the district Oldenburg there is the third bird flu case in Lower Saxony. In the stable in the municipality of D?tlingen, the pathogen H5N8 had been confirmed, as the Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture announced on Saturday. The stock of 10 000 turkeys should be killed on Sunday. The virus is considered safe for humans.

According to the ministry, there are 91 farms in D?tlingen with about one million poultry poultry, which are now no longer allowed to be transported from the area. Two other stables in the immediate vicinity of the farm are also being examined. In the Oldenburg district, stalling for poultry had been mandatory since mid-November.
In stables in the districts of Cloppenburg and Vechta, animals had already died in the avian influenza this year. In Lower Saxony, the disease has been proven 14 times since wild birds in November since November. In Germany there have so far been 13 cases of poultry and four zoos of H5N8 detected.

The avian influenza in Lower Saxony is expanding. After an outbreak in a holding in D?tlingen an avian influenza virus H5 was discovered in a turkey farm in the district of Cloppenburg, as reported by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Agriculture.

If the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut confirms that it is also the high-infected H5N8 viadrus, it would be the fourth case in a Lower Saxony-based turkey farm. All in all, over Christmas, more than 50,000 turkeys are killed in Lower Saxony.
