Third bird flu case for farmed poultry in the north-east
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a third small poultry population is affected by bird flu.
In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a third small poultry population is affected by bird flu. This was said by a spokeswoman for the Schwerin Ministry of the Environment on Friday. It is a private holding in a village of the municipality Sundhagen (Vorpommern-R?gen). The site is located near Mesekenhagen (Vorpommern-Greifswald), where a week ago the first infected poultry population with 58 animals was found in the north-east.
In the 74 ducks, chickens and pigeons in the municipality of Sundhagen, the dangerous H5N8 virus had been detected. The animals were killed, the stables cleaned. In addition, the H5N8 virus has so far been found in 17 wild birds and in a private holding with 117 chickens and pigeons in Gl?witz near Barth (Kreis Vorpommern-R?gen).
Because of the bird flu, the stalling was generally arranged in the north-east. "Never before has the virus spread so quickly across the entire Federal Republic," said Environment Minister Till Backhaus (SPD).
