Flu activity in Georgia is widespread, and the number of cases continues to rise, according to health authorities.

In week ending Nov. 30, 5.85% of patient visits to doctors were for the flu, up from 5.31% the week before, according to the latest surveillance report from the state health department.
Flu activity has been steadily rising over the past several weeks. There have been 132 flu-related hospitalizations in metro Atlanta and one flu-related death reported in the state.

Second flu-related death in Georgia confirmed by the state

ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Public Health confirms that there are now two confirmed deaths linked to the flu.

The most recent death was confirmed in the Health Department's weekly flu report.

According to the report, the patient who died is believed to be between the ages of 18 and 49 years old.
Health officials already confirmed the first flu-related death in Georgia last week amid widespread flu activity in the state. That patient was a person older than 65 years old.
