Georgia On Standby to Accept Haitian Americans
Updated 1/19/2010 12:13:25 AM
ATLANTA - A spokesman for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency says his organization is on standby to possibly start accepting Haitian-Americans in part of a larger repatriation effort across the U.S.
Buzz Weiss says the federal government could make the request at anytime. Once asked, he says GEMA would be up and running in 36 hours to bring in Haitian Americans in on flights landing at either Dobbins Air Force Base or Hartsfield Jackson International Airport.
"We've done this sort of thing before with evacuees from Hurricane Katrina in 2005 and bringing in people from Lebanon in 2006," Weiss said.
